Gets too much money from American Car Companies
The problem with Car and Driver, unlike its better counter-part, Road & Track, is it is too focused on American Cars. They try to claim the Trans-Am, Mustang, and Camero are sports cars, for instance. They aren't. Even the Corvette is questionable. However, Road & Track understands what sports cars are all about. If you want a magazine that is in the pocket of the American Car Companies, this is your magazine. It you prefer real Sports Cars, go with Road & Track!

highly entertaining
I enjoy pretty much every issue, though some are particularly interesting. Especially the issues with pieces by John Phillips. Now he's a funny man. I agree, the right-wing pontificating I can certainly do without. So I simply skip those pages because no one pays any attention to these peoples' views anyway. I just dive right into the auto info. I have to say it is pretty ironic that people complain that the same cars continue to win. Um...when you're shopping for a car, don't you want one that consistently comes out on top or at least the top 3? Yet if a car consistently does that in this magazine, that's a bad thing? Uh, okay, whatever. My car (an Audi) comes out near the top consistently and that's great by me. Anyway, back to the review. Fun and informative and well worth the price. Sign me up for another year!

Boring...!!!!!!
This has got to be one of the least entertaining, most obvious magazines out there. While the content is nothing less of professional, it's boring to read. Their opinions and views are exactly what any other car magazine has to say. And the ten best...can't they just pick one car, truck and SUV. They hate trucks by the way. Not a bad magazine, but not exactly the cream of the crop. Something better=MotorTrend!

Very serious and professional
This is a very serious magazine about cars; suitable to satisfy all your needs of knowledge related to this industry. The general and continuous reading of it will be a great advantage for you in the following points:
A. Buying a new car, since you will be aware about the best options in the market based on the amount you intend to spend and the category of your needs. You shall also be aware about the defects and problems that you would be facing in your choice. The continuous flooding of information about new models and years of changing these models would ensure you avoiding unnecessary losses and disappointments.
B. knowing your own car: you will be sometimes astonished about how much information about engineering, pleasure to drive and solutions to repeated problems are provided in the test of car that you own.
C. Investing in automotive industry: although advices not presented directly, reading this magazine will keep you informed about the surge and tumble of cars manufacturers. You would also get clear picture about trends in the industry and (almost) insiders' information from experts knowing professionally where each of the big names is heading.

One could argue that all cars magazines provide such information. Car And Driver, however, is highly professional, without much dragging customer intention, edited by people who love cars and never hide such passion. The honesty in criticizing and in expressing the passion of the drivers is that remarkable, so as you are never misinformed or misguided. The presentation of the articles, the quality of paper and the clarity of pictures are all additional elements for total satisfaction.
The price offered for subscribers will rate "value" as 10 out of 10, or even higher if it is arithmetically possible.

One minor defect: the articles in the first pages of the magazine are not -all the time- really related to cars rather to rules, regulations and domestic politic, which is an unnecessary alienation ultimately degrading the purpose of the magazine and possibly leads to polarization of opinions. However, the defect is minor and possibly self-adjustable based on the high experience that the magazine is accumulating.

Best Car Mag out there
Car and Driver writers are indisputably, the best car journalists in the business. The writing is clear and free of grammatical errors. Some car magazines get facts wrong like whether or not this car has a limited slip or what the 0-60 time is. Car and Driver never has such sophomoric mistakes.

They spice up the articles with metaphors and other such clever schemes. They compare the Honda Accord's door gap as going from bank vault thick to Fort Knox thick. The S2000 is like your favorite pair of jeans.

Their yearly 10 Best Car comparison is one of the best comparisons of cars. Their head to head comparisons help empower the car consumer get a feel before he steps into the dealership.

Lacks credibility
I wasn't even driving yet in 1984 and I knew that Motor Trend's pick of the Renault Alliance for 1984 Car of the Year was a joke.

I've had trouble with most of them since then, too.

They seem to eek out the lowest acceleration numbers in the industry, which is great when you're reading about a car you like, but one has to wonder what kind of corrections they're performing on the numbers, because in practice few others can achieve those numbers (certainly not consistently, anyway).

I bought one each of the five mainstream magazines this month -- November 2002 issues of Automobile, Autoweek, Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Road & Track -- partly to compare and update my perceptions of each (but mostly to read everything I can about the Infiniti G35 Coupe that I'm getting next month :-) ) and in my opinion, Motor Trend is the worst of the bunch. Sorry, MT.

Motor Trend - Not Too Bad!
I've had a subscription to Motor Trend for over 3 years and for the money $10-$12 a year it's not too bad. Sometimes the vehicles they show in the main article of the month are way out of normal blue-collar family budgets but they try to show a broad look at all vehicles and they do a great job of explaining everything in detail. I would give 5 stars if they would cut back on showing the real extravagant vehicles.

Still the best!
Motor Trend magazine is one of the best of the best. I've been reading it since I was 10. This magazine is very informative, and does get good performance numbers. Articles are well written, comparisons are excellent. They always are the first to drive the lastest models. This magazine is a lot more entertaining and interesting to read than Car and Driver. They are 100% enthusiasts, bold and respected, this magazine is ahead of the pace. Motor Trend is the best car magazine!

The only auto magazine you need to read.
Well, I think the title says it all, but I'll go ahead with a proper review. First off, the Editor's column is good sometimes, and the other columns (or column-from the exec. editor) afterwards, is pretty good too. But the meat and potatoes, as they say, of the mag, is the tests. They do great, wonderful, magnificent, excellent, superb, tests; and they're very in-depth. They show charts with all the data and along with comparisons of everything they tested in that story or feature or article. They do 1 year checkups sometimes, like stuff they did 1 year ago (which currently would be the 2003 model[s] ), but you also see some 2002's in there. Anyway, it's very cool, and of course you have to love the (insert auto type here) of the year awards, which is mainly what I was referring to in my above praise.

Adequate, but better out there
Motor Trend is sub-par to Car and Driver, but it still a decent magazine.

For instance, one of the contributors in the February 2003 issue wrote a piece detailing how it would one could tune a Prius with Fast and Furious parts to make it a performance machine and a gas-saver. Seriously, Mr. Del Coates has seen too many movies with Paul Walker in it. If he wants to talk about hybrid/gasoline performance cars, he could talk about the Honda Dualnote concept. But no, Coates writes in a juvenile style that is serious about the topic of tricking out a Toyota Prius.

The Photography is decent as is writing. One of the benefits of this magazine is the "Pre-owned" section that helps readers pick out used cars.

Yet the magazine falls flat of the benchmark of enthuasist magazines: Car and Driver. ... Read more

Best weekly car rag
I currently subscribe to three car magazines: Grassroots Motorsports for my bi-monthly amateur motorsports/project car fix, Road & Track for my monthly car comparison and vintage car fix, and Autoweek for my weekly new-car-news-first fix. No other printed publication can touch Autoweek for being the first to press with the latest and greatest car news and racing coverage. And they always do it with beautiful photography, informative and entertaining writing, and an easy-to-read format.

Best for news!
While this magazine may be the good for racing and car reviews I keep getting because it gives real NEWS. All the other car magazines have lead times of months or more. Autoweek can tell you what happened last week in the automotive world. Where this appeals to me most is finding out what new cars are coming. If you are someone that wants to know that the new Mini-Cooper is coming this Spring then you could have read it in Autoweek two years ago, with pictures! Learn week by week that the new BMW M3 is delayed, things like that. They often have driving impression reviews months before other car magazines. Another sometimes great part of this magazine is the last page called BWTM for 'But Wait There's More...'. Here they make fun of the automotive news. Other than those sections the full car reviews are average at best, not as good as Car & Driver. The racing coverage of Nascar, F1, Cart and sometimes IRL is good but you only get about 2 pages of each per issue. Not much coverage of other racing. The editorial columns are 2nd rate and not as good as Car & Driver. Buy it for the news, that's my review!

Best for racing coverage
Many of the columnists, writers, etc. (Leon Mandel, Rich Ceppos) "graduated" from other, monthly car magazines. Overall, this magazine covers racing much more thoroughly than the monthlies (not surprising, considering that a weekly can cover individual races), yet still extends to individual car reviews and to other aspects of the automotive world (Keith Martin's classic car auction reviews are an example) and industry news events much more quickly, again because AutoWeek can cover those issues almost immediately, as they happen. Still, if you want covrage of Formula One, CART, IRL, and NASCAR, among the major magazines, this is your only choice. ... Read more

I have come to read maybe a couple articles
not nearly as appealing as the other magazines I have read: motortrend, car and driver, automobile mag, sport compact. I don't like any of the long racing articles and anything on old cars. Car and drivers off topic articles tend to be more interesting and occasionally very funny.

The Magazine for the Serious Car Person
Road and Track is different than most car enthusiast magazines. Not only does it spend time on the cars of today, it also has articles on vintage models and racecars. I have found that Road and Track goes much more in depth than others, rewarding the reader. However, if you do not like performance cars look for something else

Maybe I'll like it more when I'm older
I'm under 30 and don't remember all the old cars that some of the journalists have such fond memories of. Also, this is a very serious magazine. I can see how the articles and their serious, "just the facts" style can appeal to some people, but I like the lighthearted and funny style of C&D. R&T sometimes seems very dry to me. MT tries to be funny, but it never works. MT writers remind me of people with really bad senses of humor that think they are funny. They wind up just being annoying. I would place this magazine as a middle of the road magazine. Sportscar international and C&D are #1, R&T is in the middle, Automobile slightly lower and MT is the bottom of the barrel

this is without a doubt the BEST non-specific car magazine out there. it features all the topics any true automobile afficionados would love to read about, new cars, test drives, upcoming tidbits, motorsport, racing history, classic cars, and technical reviews. it is also a very beautiful magazine, with wonderful pictures and illustration. it also has the best features i've ever come across in any car magazine, written by true auto enthusiasts like peter egan, whose eloquent writings about automobile are just unmatched. this is the best! automobile magazine is the worst. ... Must Read
This is a great magazine for both owners and fans of Porsche. Bruce Anderson's columns alone are a good enough reason to purhcase it. The mix of topics makes it a magazine for everyone; from reviews of the latest and greatest to articles on older Porsches which well within the reach of any enthusiast. I have subscribed for many years and can't conceive of it not arriving in my mailbox.

The market section and owner reports make it invaluable for someone looking to purchase a Porsche (no one would sell one would they?), I have been trying hard not to to use excellent or excellence in this description, but quite frankly it is an excellent magazine!

Excellence was expected
Great magazine with minimum fluff for advertisements. Good technical articles and an interesting mix of street and track and restoration. Nice to see original articles and columns not recyclyed stuff like I used to see in R & T and Car & Driver before I cancelled them.

If you are an enthusiast then this magazine will be your first read ...even before pano.

Keeps slipping every month
This magazine is turning into a picture show with very little content. Everything is subjective in the magazine with very little (or none at all) technical data to base their opinions on. There just isn't enough to this magazine. It only takes a few minutes to get through it, since it's basically a picture-book.

Automobile Mag sub
I like Automobile mag. It keeps me up to date on new cars and concepts in contrast to all my reading on import modding magazines. I think that Automobile is similar to any of the other car magazines such as Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, etc. I dont think it matters which mag u subscribe to. Just pick one. You could go to a bookstore and browse through each magazine to see which one u like the best, and then subscribe to it.

the worst magazine for the TRUE auto enthusiasts
this is the worst magazine for those who truly love cars. it's essentially a picture show, and not that good of one, either. the editorial features are horrible, nothing interesting or striking. flipping through it feels like flipping through pages of nothing. it has horrible reviews and test drives written by people less professional than those of R&T and CD. content is hollow and inadequate, very superficial, and definically skimped out on the technical parts, such as car specs, vehicle dynamics, numbers, data, track performance, etc. there isn't that much content with each issue, and the overall layout belies its attempt to be more european, except it waters down the best features of british car magazines. this magazine is only for the laypeople who know little about cars.

An auto enthusiast's guide for the car and the road!
As a MT subscriber for over 30 years, I came upon "Automobile" only about six years ago. It is a comprehensively informative and entertaining excursion into the ever-changing world of wheels.

One of its annual highlights is the supplementary "Great Drives" issue that points out some the continent's most easily accessible-by-car destinations. These locations are more than picturesque; they are cost-friendly and perfect for the family or the individual traveler.

Comic book grade motorcycle magazine
Years ago, Cycle World was a 1st class motorcycle publication
that assumed people were intelligent enough to work and modify their own bikes, and understand a myriad of technical articles
designed to enhance the enjoyment and understanding of the sport.

Now, the magazine(with the exception of the monthly technical
article by Cameron) just caters to the moronic instant gratification generation of which 90% are just posers raised with out the ability to reason their way out of a paper bag.

I am talking serious fluf...

The best motorcycle magazine made in the USA
I've been reading motorcycle magazines for years and I find that Cycle World is consistently the best written. It is one of the few motorcycle magazines in the US that you can literally read from cover to cover. I really enjoy the fact that it is targeted at an adult audience - and it should be since the average age of their readers is around 40. That means that I don't have to wade through a bunch of prepubescent garbage to find out about this month's latest greatest bikes and that alone is worth the cover price.

This is a magazine that covers the entire spectrum of motorcycling. You can read articles about sport bikes, standards, cruisers, dirt bikes and even scooters. Cycle World offers really great Op-Ed pieces too, and that's what really sells this magazine.

One word of warning, if I was especially interested in only one kind of bike, or one aspect of motorcycling, I might prefer a specialty magazine. I'd still read Cycle World, however, just because it's nice to have a quality magazine about a sport I love that's a lot more than just pretty pictures.

Unless youre devoted to sport bikes, keep looking
I have no interest in sport bikes though I understand the thrill for those who do. I subscribed to Cycle World because I understood it to be a premier motorcycle magazine. I won't renew my subscription. If you're looking for a magazine relating to sport bikes then Cycle World might be your magazine, if not, keep looking.

I enjoy the cool bikes and hot witches that Easyriders has to offer. Another good selection to put in granny's donut house (the bathroom) ,is the 1% favorite, "Outlaw Biker." Both these magazines are old school and way kewl, in my book. But do not just believe reviews pick up a copy of either of these great magazines and decide for yourself.

Great Magazine for the GM fan
Good magazine for the occasional reading. Like stated above, if you are anything other that a GM fan, you will find yourself in the dark 80% of the time. I truly respect all brands of muscle, but if I wanted to read only on GM, I would buy one of their sister publications.

Great Magazine
I think that this is an excellent magazine for the hot rod enthusist. You really get your moneys worth with this magazine. Though this magazine could use a little less advertisments and focus more on the articles and pictures. Overall a great mag!

Not my favorite, but not bad
I like this mag. It's not the best if you're looking at Cruisers. Every month it seems like they throw in a few cruiser pics as an afterthought. This is clearly a sport/touring mag. They do run some interesting tech articles, like how tires are made, and they go into depth on bike specs. Go buy one and you'll know if you like it. I won't be renewing my subscription, but I'll be looking at it in the supermarket every month.

For those with eclectic interests.
Good technical articles. One of the better cycle mags out there for the rider who is dreaming about the next bike, or the wannabee just dreaming. A little light on focus, but what is there (and that's a fair amount) goes into appropriate depth to be useful. Not a picture, glamour or scene mag, rather a serious effort on bikes. It's just hard to predict whether this is the issue that will feature cruisers, sport-tourers, or crotch-rockets, etc., etc. Otherwise well put together.

The yard-stick of motorcycle magazines
It has excellent reviews for cruiser and sportbikes, with good feedback for real world riding situations, as well as the track (high performance sportbikes). Most magazines focus on just performance and speed, but this one has the info. on real world stuff (ergos, comfort, maintenance, long term tests, accessories, etc.)
It's a great magazine for people who are shopping around for bikes who are doing their research, or for riders who want to know what new bikes are coming out. ... Read more

good for ageing corner blasters
For ageing corner blasters like myself(53) who have slowed a bit and often ride two up on longish trips, "Rider" is an excellent magazine.It's new bike tests are reliable and low on hype. It's columnists often muse about the riding experience and its relation to our broader lives. It has plenty of "how to" features and my two decade collection of tours and destinations featured in "Rider" is keeping me pleasantly busy in retirement. A good down to earth,mature,magazine.

One of my favorites¿
Largely geared towards the rider attracted to the larger bikes capable of logging lots of miles. Seems to feature a smattering of sport bikes, sport-tourers as well as touring rigs, the larger touring cruisers and liter sized open-bikes. The commentary is often based on longer rides, as well as long-term tests, and they occasionally dig up stuff on the classic bikes of the 50-70s, for those senior riders who want a trip down memory lane. They do not always have the most technical of write-ups, but feature good useful information for the enthusiast who wants to keep abreast of what's happening... Not a squid or scene mag.

Great for Touring / Sport-Touring Readers
This magazine is for people that like to combine motorcycles with travel. It's for guys/gals that ride bikes to enjoy new places, find new twisties, and just plain put mileage on their machines. Flip through the pages and you don't see Super Sport/Nitro or V-Twin Ultra-Customs with zero miles on the odometer. Writers don't really care whether a bike does a 11 second quarter mile (don't get me wrong, more HP is better than less!). What you do get are stories about weekend and week-long rides in places like the Grand Canyon, the Pyrenee Mountains, or the Dakotas. Bike reviews are mostly on machines like the BMW K1200 GT (a sport tourer) or Yamaha Silverado (cruiser with bags/windshield). Columnists concentrate on riding skills, what to pack for the road, and gadgets that can make riding more fun. It's practical and entertaining info. It's my personal favorite magazine.

The quick review
A good basic all around motorcycle magazine. Definitely for the mainstream and not the extreme biker, left or right.

The thing I like about "Rider" is that it's more real world related that other magazines like "Motorcyclist" and "Cycle World." It focuses more on the ride rather than plugging the latest and greatest cutting edge motorcycles. It's very well rounded. Maxim for Motorcycles
This magazine is published by the same people that brought us Maxim. So if you like Maxim, check it out. If you don't: pass. The pictures are slick, models are attractive, but there is little in the way of information on how to do it yourself or what was actually done to the bike. It is basically a picture book. If you are looking for technical articles, how tos or performance installs; check out Road Bike for metrics or Hot Bike or American Iron for Harleys and Victory's.

Metric and Harley cruisers side by side!
Are you a cruiser owner that is sick of all the Harlier-Than-Thou magazines out there? Let me tell you, if all you want is to see a magazine chock full of awesome V-Twin custom bikes and you don't care what part of the globe they are from or what badge was on the tank then you better slap yourself down for a subscription to V-Twin magazine.

While pouring through a recent issue of V-Twin I find numerous four page spreads on fantastic custom cruisers that include a Kawasaki Vulcan 800, a Yamaha Road Star and a Yamaha Royal Star plus pictures of reader's rides showing a Yamaha Road Star and a Suzuki Intruder. Of course there are your typical custom Harley entrants including a fantastic Knucklehead and an INSANE custom from Eurocomponants! There are also heaps of ads for vendors that cater to both the Metric and Harley owners which is nice to see. And of course there are naturally write-ups on product reviews, wrenching advice, bike events, biking editorials and general bike news geared to the cruiser owner.

To me this is a great magazine that doesn't try to push the Harley world down my throat and I don't think I found a disparaging comment towards Metric bikes anywhere which was quite refreshing. V-Twin isn't about bad ... 'tudes, nor is it full of half naked women and profanity, it's all about custom cruisers and doesn't attempt to be anything its not. Don't get me wrong, I love a picture of a half naked woman laid over a bike as much as the next guy, but at the end of the day we are here for the bikes, admit it. For the record, I'm the owner of a 1999 Yamaha Road Star that I bought almost four years ago (my eighth bike), plus I am the owner of RoadStarMagazine.com, so you can see that metric cruisers and cruisers in general are a passion for me. ... Hands down, the best mag on the planet
If you want down to earth, fun, understandable, most of the time affordable outlook on the car crafting industry, this is the mag for you. Great writers, great articles, great magazine...And it's dirt cheap. Yippee!!!

One of the best musclecar magazines
I feel a bit ackword putting 5 stars for any item without some explaination, so here it is. If you are interested in building engines with high cost-to-performance ratio as well as good reliability, this is the magazine for you. The magazine doesn't hold bias to any (american) company either making it good for any enthusiast. In addition, the straight scoop section has great information on the automotive world in both the corporate and enthusiast venues. And if you looking for a little comedy, the magazine offers that too. Carcraft is one of the best all around magazines for anyone who owns classic or modern american muscle. However, if you own an import car, don't look for much information or sympathy in these pages. Ofcourse, that isn't the subject of this magazine anyway and there are plenty of good import magazines available.

Car Craft
This is a good magazine for you if you want to take a 1960s American car and rebuild it (not restore it). They discuss finding appropriate parts in your local junk yards to improve your car and national sources for items to improve the original vehicles. Examples of this are fuel injected heads for older GM 350s and rear disk brake systems for OEM axels which had stock drum brakes.

The editorial style is flippant, but they publish useful articles each issue. The answers to technical questions are particularly good.

Most well-informed sportbike magazine in the US
I've subscribed to this magazine for over a year and in that time, I've found numerous articles, from reviews of the latest sportbikes to ratings of aftermarket parts and riding techniques, which have been worth archiving for later reference.

The reviews of the motorcycles are extremely helpful when considering a track bike or an everyday sporting ride, and I've found them to be extremely advantageous to carry along to the dealership when looking for a new or used bike. They're well-written, and the staff writers are among the most eloquent and well-informed in the business.

The aftermarket parts and gear reviews are just as helpful as the motorcycle reviews. When looking to set up the suspension of your bike, or looking for a good exhaust system or even cheap ways to boost your horsepower, look no further than here. The tech section is very helpful for finding the right parts for your bike, and in recommending the highest quality parts on the market.

Considering all the magazines in publication today, it's sometimes hard to settle in on one magazine which will suit your needs exactly. When I want to browse cruisers or touring bikes, I look elsewhere. But this is the only motorcycle magazine to which I subscribe, and it's left me satisfied month after month, whether just reading it or using it as a vital reference tool in the vast spectrum of high performance motorcycles.

Sport Rider Magazine
Probably the best magazine on sportbikes and performance motorcycles I've ever read. Full of pertinent information on the latest machines, plus it has tips on riding techniques, which I find invaluable. The editors seem to have more insight into what makes performance motorcycles work than the other magazines.

Best U.S. Sport Bike magazine
Of all the motorcycle magazines I've been able to get in the U.S., Sport Rider is the only one that is dedicated to Sport Bikes. It has great reviews on new bikes, tips on riding, racing news, and great reviews on Sport Bike products (i.e. the best helmets). Only for Euro cars sold in USA
Great magazine lots of good tips and nice product reviews. Very entertaining. The only downside it only has info on European cars sold in the US Market, so if you want info on the latest Alfa Romeo or tips on how to improved the performance of your Peugeot 307 this is not the place. On the other hand if you have a VW Gti or a BMW you will love it.

The Best European Tuner Magazine I've Read
European Car features a wide variety of new, old, and upcoming European made automobiles. You'll find everything from a hopped up '89 VW GTI, to the lastest masterpiece of Pininfarina. They test creations from every European performance tuner out there, as well as a few vehicles that are completely unadulterated and right from the manufacturer.

If you are looking for a magazine that will review the latest Peugot and tell you trunk space, the number of cup holders, and whether or not it has power windows, this is NOT the magazine for you.

If you are looking for a magazine that gives you a feeling for a customized Euro creation, keeps you updated on their magazine project cars, and is abundant with racing news, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. If you're a numbers person, however, you should know that it typically will not give acceleration, quarter mile, or skidpade numbers.
I gave it 4 stars because it accomplishes being what it tries to be as well as, or better than almost every other car magazine out there, and definitely every other import tuner magazine. It's an excellent balance of aftermarket accessories, racing news, new car reviews, and just talkin' cars.

Good articles, sometimes a bit cheesy.
I've been a "European Car" subscriber for years. I've owned a series of VWs and Audis, and European Car usually has interesting articles about cars by both makes.

Many of their articles are well-done, and provide interesting coverage about some pretty wild modifications to everyday european cars.

However, some of their articles can get really "over-the-top". Some of the cars that they review have been so overly modified that they're really kind of ridiculous; things that I would never consider doing to my own vehicle.

Regardless, it's a good magazine for owners and enthuisiasts of VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche and Volvo cars. ... Read more

The Nitty-Rocky-Muddy-Gritty
Petersen has a knack for trade journals that warm to their subject area with a limited amount of fuss or bluster. They understand the automotive world in great depth, and write articles that are clear and to the point. Whether you are a novice getting your feet wet in the world of wheeling or a long time rock freak with a yen to drop a V8 in your CJ-7, Petersen's provides some of the best subject and interest articles in the business.

They do this without any overly macho styling that makes every automobile into a phallic symbol. This is good for the sport, since not every off-roader is a man with a torque wrench for a brain. They manage to do this without being the least bit dull either. You will find photo essays on notable mistakes, driving articles, essays on tire choice, and detailed discussions of how to create an off-road vehicle from sometimes unlikely components.

If you have to pick one trade journal out of the bunch, 4 Wheel & Off-Road is probably the choice that makes the best sense.

It has it all !!
I am a long time Nascar lover/watcher and I'm not really a redneck either. Born in New Mexico, but have lived all my adult life in Micigan. Here in Michigan, we have two race dates a year at our Michigan track and they are sold out at ever Nascar event. When the races are here in Michigan, as well as all Nascar tracks, Nascar Illustrated covers each event in such detail that you can imagine your actually there. The camera shots, the well written articles, take you to the track, let you talk to the drivers, crew chiefs, crew member and much more, of the the things you are interested most in. Sure the news is somewhat dated, but is more detailed and it gives you a chance to read, research and record all of the events that take place. After all, reading is at your speed, not some fast talking anouncers. But the best thing about NI, is the visits paid to racers and owners homes. The photography is breath taking, the interviews cutting and to the point. A beautiful way to learn about our heroes, its like you are right there, at home, on the plane or motorhome and then at the track, in the pits, in the R&D shop finding out about the race cars of today as well as those of tomorrows, even behind the wheel. The Magazine really is Nascar Illustrated, from front to back, it's one of the finest magazines I've ever seen/read,I now have my own subscription to Nascar Illustrated. One of the best sports car magazines
This U.S.-based magazine is easily among the best for sports car enthusiasts. Excellent photography, driving impressions from amateur racers, styling impressions from professional car designers, and thoughtful, very descriptive reviews from all over the world make it my favorite. It easily compares with the best from Europe and the U.S. and is soley focussed on sports cars. No trucks, no SUVs, no minivans. Just excellent sports car reviews and photography. Highly recommended.

SCI would be worth a subscription alone to get access to Peter Brock's articles and photography. Brock is the designer of the Shelby Daytona Coupe and other race and street cars. He's a sculptor and Art Center trained car designer, an engineer, winning race car driver and team manager, excellent photographer and all-around solid sports car guy. He does it all because he loves cars. Same with the other writers and staff of SCI. Love and knowledge of the subject makes Sports Car International great.

The Best Automotive Magazine
Sports Car International is, by far, the best automotive magazine currently being made. This is the magazine that Road and Track, Car and Driver, Motortrend, Automobile, and all the others wish they could be. This magazine is a little more pricy and it only comes 6 times a year, but that does not diminish its excellence. This magazine has far fewer subscribers than the big names, but that doesn't stop it from consistently having the most beautiful photographs, the best writing, and the least ads. While the big names have endless pages of advertising, SCI has few. Also, this magazine is one of the most focused ones on the rack. You won't find Honda Civics, Cadillac Escalades, or any other crappy vehicles. The magazine reviews more than sports cars alone, but they do an excellent job limiting the coverage to "sporty" cars. The variety is also overwhelming. If you subscribe to Motortrend, you might get 3 or 4 sporty cars in one issue. The very first issue I bought had reviews of the BMW M Coupe, the Ferrari 360 Spider, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, the Aston-Martin Vanquish, the Aston-Martin DB4, the Porsche Carrera 4, and others. The motorsports coverage and features relating to the automobile industry are also second to none. If you love exotic and sporty vehicles, there is no other magazine to get.

One of the best car magazines.
I never seem to find this one at most book stores and it is one of the most intelligently/thoughtfully written magazines I have ever read. There are beautiful color photos inside and not many ads. It seems to be everything automobile magazine was supposed to be (nice photographs, european style, and different), but automobile could never pull it off.

The best car magazine ever
I subscribed to the original version of this magazine (Sports Car Illustrated) back in the 80's and well into the 90's. It is the only car magazine out of the 5 that I recieved every month that I collected. The articles are timeless. They are for true sports and racing car lovers by true car lovers. What more can I say. My subscription ran out and I regretted never getting it again. Now I have. I am absolutely overjoyed to start collecting again.

By far the best automotive periodical. Very limited advertising, leaving room for excellent high quality photography. Indepth articles with true sports cars of today and past eras. Excellent magazine
I began looking for an RV 3 years ago and have come to rely on the information in Motor Home magazine. The advertisements offer lots of information which I can use to check against other sources to make sure I'm getting what I want and not over-paying. I really enjoy the trips section, and the reviews of the new motor homes. I save every issue and read them several times to uncover gems that I missed in the first reading. The reviews of the Rialta, the Trek and the See Ya have been particularly helpful to me. I also like the articles about the dinghys. My goal now is to travel from Florida to Mexico to Alaska, then East through Canada to the Maritimes, then back to Florida. While in Mexico I plan to take the Copper Canyon trip, and in the Northwest I will retrace sections of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. All along this trip I'll rely on past and present articles in Motor Home Magazine for stops along the way. Andy in Virginia.
