I hate to say it...
...But I prefer Popular Hot Rodding to Hot Rod. PHR covers classic and muscle cars with more depth, while doing a decent job of staying away from Hondas and Acuras with those big dumb exhaust pipes. As a truly awful mechanic, I find PHR to be more sympathetic to amateurs and dreamers. ... Read more

Mustang & Fords
If you're into 'classic' Mustangs (built between 1964 and 1973) and pre-'73 Fords and you don't mind taking advantage of modern technology to make an old car a little more practical, then this magazine is for you.

Every issue features a range of cars including old Fairlanes, Rancheros, Torinos and other Ford names as well as several Mustangs. The cars are illustrated with sharp, professional photography with their histroy and specifications generally described in some detail

Technical features are clearly written and illustrated with step by step photography. They range from the arcane and obscure to the bleedin' obvious and are invariably useful to some degree in understanding Mustangs and Fords, if not particularly specific to your own needs.

The magazine is not overly stuffed with ads, so it maintains a slim comfortable magazine size. The design is straightforward and uncluttered. While it may be aimed at a particular segment of the automotive readership, it is a better product than any other Mustang-related magazine on the market. ... Read more

The company
The service of the company delivering the magazine is the worst so get the magazine off shelf and save your money and the headache they'll give you. I ordered it Dec. 2002 and now Sep. 2003 and got nothing even after contacting the company.

I love mustangs since they were born into this world and I wanted to have this magazine.I ordered this magazine in December 2002 and now it is September 2003 and I received NOTHING. I contacted the company and nothing happened so I recommend you get the nice magazine off the shelf and save your money and the headache.

Hands down a MUST HAVE for all who own or envy Mustangs
This is a wonderful magazine for all who have or want to buy 5.0 Mustang! It does not leave out the other people who own the modular 4.6 ponies, more and more 4.6 and even 6 cyl articles are showing up. There are pics of readers car, dream cars, drag cars, Saleens, and of course the babe of the month (not always a babe but at least female!). Many helpful hints and great ads to make that dream car that you will most likely never own. At about a dollar an issue you can't go wrong! Buy it for your bathroom today!
PS. read up on the history of the Cobras. The 89 GT is the best but the Cobra made the best show in 93!

Good gift for Dads!
I purchased a subscription to this magazine for my father, who loves old cars. It is not a beautiful publication, but it comes every week and he seems to thoroughly enjoy it. The publication style fits those who hang out in cold garages and scrounge for parts! ... Read more

Good, but only as good as the industry
I've been a subscriber to this magazine for more than 10 years, so I obviously like it, but it is only at its best when the kit car industry itself is on the upswing. As a matter of fact, the length of my running subscription may be more a reflection of the choices a kit-car enthusiast has in magazines than of the quality of the magazine itself.

The articles are usually well-written, with decent photo coverage of each vehicle, as well as some pretty good owner-interviews.

The only problem is that when there are no NEW kits on the scene to cover (which is most of the time), they usually fall back to yet ANOTHER Cobra article, or yet ANOTHER Countach. While there are plenty of great cars of this type out there, they are used far too often as filler material.

I would also have to rate the how-to area as just 'OK'. While the magazine occasionally includes some helpful how-to info, such as on painting or FG repair, I would say it falls well short of useful how-to info geared toward kit-car makers or home-fabricators. Yes, as a novice builder one might find a two-page article on mixing and applying resin useful, but to the more advanced reader looking for info on modern molding techniques, custom drivetrains, or chassis fabrication (all pretty common things to this hobby), this magazine does not deliver.

Overall, if you subscribe you will know what models are out there and receive some good consumer advice about acquiring and owning one, along with the experiences of those who already have or do. Just dont expect much more than a version of 'consumer reports' for kit cars. ... Read more

This is a great mag for the weekend rider. This mag is espeshaly good for those just starting out in the sport/hobby of riding. There is even a secion on riding tips, that i have found to be very helpful. The mag quality over all may not compair to other mags for the sport however given the price, focous, and riding tips of the mag its at the top of my list. ... Read more
