Accurate and Entertaining
The Jerusalem Post is the only major English-language newspaper published daily in Israel. In recent years the Hebrew-language Haaretz has started publishing a small English edition, too, and both the Jerusalem Post and Haaretz in English are now available abroad, either weekly or (if you can find it) daily.

The Jerusalem Post was sold to new owners about ten years ago, and became at that time slightly more sensationalist in its content and more conservative in its outlook (though it remains a serious newspaper, and often publishes pieces by left-wing and Arab writers). These changes led some readers to switch to Haaretz, and prompting some Post writers to break away and found the left-of-center English-language magazine "Jerusalem Report".

I generally prefer the Jerusalem Post to these alternatives, though, as it is a professional, respected newspaper with a lot of human-interest, entertaining pieces (such as cooking and advice columns which give an interesting insight into "ordinary" Israeli life). Its North America edition, particularly, is geared to the interests and needs of Americans and Canadians, with extensive coverage of the US and Canada, and lots of pieces about Jewish and Christian communities in Israel and abroad.

If you're a scholar working on the Middle East, you'd do best to read all English-language news sources. (Or better yet, learn Hebrew!) But if you're looking for a good weekly newspaper that will educate you about Israeli politics and events as it entertains you with interesting features, then the Jerusalem Post is for you....

Smart, deep, profound and truthful
This is very best example of truthful journalism. The Journalism that does not affected to by oil dollars, not medieval mentality. If someone does not like the truth that's Ok. Truth sometimes may became really harsh and unpleasant. It is really interesting reading for educated and contemporary thinking individual.
Highly recommended.

Shamefully biased
Terriblely biased. Look at euro newspapers for a more balanced (or at least factual) coverage.

it's unfortunate propaganda
This is an interesting read when you keep in mind it's political agenda, that is, it obviously supports Israel's aggressive military occupation of Palestine and violation of numerous laws and treaties. But it is certainly not accurate in reporting the facts. I recommend reading European newspapers for more accurate coverage of the crises in the Middle East, especially with regards to Israel. American (and Israeli) publications seem to portray Israel as an American ally and an innocent victim of terrorism. But that's simply not the case. They are guilty of extraordinary crimes that rarely get much attention or consideration in the US. Just look at how the UN regards the actions of Israel.

Truth
This is, hands down, the finest publication covering Israel and the Middle East today. Always thought-provoking and intriguing, it tells the true story of life in Israel, and the lives of average Israelis coping with unprecedented terrorism and militant Islamic fanaticism. Proves once again why Israel is the strongest ally of the United States and, as most Americans see, Israel is on the frontlines of the war on international Islamic terror every day. Brilliant!
Although it may be slim, this magazine is filled to the brim with great ideas and tips on creating great looking materials. I would highly recommend this subscription! Also check out the book by John McWade.

Better than the WSJ
Unlike the WSJ which panders to a broad readership, the FT caters to the most sophisticated swath of the business community, and this gives it free rein to analyze issues at an advanced level. In particular, the FT's coverage of macroeconomic issues, such as the US current account deficit and China's role in the world economy, is rich in technical detail.

Fortunately, this doesn't come at the expense of style: the writing is consistently lucid, enlivened by a dash of humor and the occasional rhetorical flourish.

The Comment section is the paper's crown jewel, with op-eds by politicians, economists, and other luminaries, as well as the FT's stable of columnists. Articles by Martin Wolf, the chief economics commentator, are alone worth the cost of subscription. On the downside, the recent departure of U.S. bureau chief Gerard Baker has left a noticeable void.

In a marked contrast to the philistinism of the WSJ, the FT takes arts and culture seriously. Indeed, the Weekend edition's Arts section is on a par with staid literary journals. The Travel section and the recently-introduced FT Magazine are also stellar.

If I had to choose between the FT and the WSJ, I'd take the FT any day; it is hands-down the best business newspaper in the world.

Best world coverage
This newspaper provides an outside-the-box (US) opinion, even though Britain's outlook is similarities to ours. I read the WSJ daily and the NYTimes when I can, but the WSJ is so conservative and the NYTimes is so liberal that this provides a source that is at least one level removed from the conservative/liberal bias in this country.

good for economics/business not for world reporting
This newspaper is good for economics and business reporting but is painfully biased in its world reporting. Cant recommend, go with WSJ

The WSJ of Europe
What the Wall Street Journal is the the US, the Financial Times is to Europe- a collection of unbiased news, financial information and analysis, and darned good social and cultural reporting, too. It's what the New York Times purports to be- a journal for the informed, educated reader. Excellent repoting, fascinating features and a different outlook than you'll find in domestic papers. If you've never read the FT, give it a try.

FT vs WSJ
I've read WSJ for about 15 years and just started FT recently.Each has its own focus.WSJ is very sensible, yet clearly has a conservative inclination...I tend to share their perspective on most things.

FT seems less conservative in their observations and certainly looks at things from a more international viewpoint.The financial aspect of the paper has, I believe, more to do with understanding how the world operates economically whereas WSJ deals more with day-to-day considerations.

Entertaining opposing (or at least differently slanted) opinions can foster a more balanced perspective.So my advice is, if you are able, to read them both. ... Read more

Has lost cache, but there's still no substitute
Veteran Barron's readers (I'm going on 12 years) will tell you that the magazine/paper has deteriorated into the equivalent of an eccentric, pessimistic, stubborn old man who fancies himself wiser than the rest of the world.It is easily the most skeptical mainstream business/investing publication out there, which makes for reading that is entertaining at times and frustrating at other times.That tone is pervasive throughout, from the Alan Abelson's opening editorial to the technology-oriented "Plugged In" column.But this publication has its strong points, which is the reason I continue to subscribe:

- Market Laboratory section, which provides a huge amount of market, economic, and performance data that I rely on weekly
- A frequent focus on undiscovered or ignored stocks which present unusual values
- In depth interviews with various money managers, often those who are not popping up on CNBC every five minutes

Beyond that, Barron's still has the rep for breaking new stories, and stocks will definitely move on Monday after being prominently featured over the weekend.Almost without exception, my issue is at the doorstep by the time I get up on Saturday - a perfect complement to my morning coffee.It's no bargain compared to the glossy business mags.But as I noted in my title, I can't find a substitute for it.If you can get past the attitude, the meat of Barron's makes it worth reading.

Detailed investment news and review
For the advanced investor.
A great weekly; usually in the mailbox Saturday morning with Friday's closing numbers. Voluminous info, including data on many microcaps and thinly-traded issues, as well as futures, options, commodities and foreign stocks.
Excellent commentary with weekly columns on bonds, politics, European trading, Asian trading, commodities, options and other stuff.
Warning-- bearish outlook-- was bearish throughout the entire late 90's, but still a great source of news and opinion, with a wide variety of interviews and sources.

Barron's Doesn't Match Up
From the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, Barron's attempts to provide a weekly look at personal finance. As such, it must be compared against other publications such as Money, Forbes and the like. It does beat each of these publications hands-down.

However, with so many other information sources out there such as the Internet and the WSJ, I just don't see Barron's as a must read. If you're keeping up with daily events, you aren't going to be very surprised with what is in Barron's, and the columns frequently end up a bit off the deep end of conventional investment thought. ... Folded in half and blistering with punchy headlines, Advertising Age looks and reads like a daily newspaper. However, its glossy sheen reveals it as a weekly trade tabloid to be reckoned with. Published by media giant Crain Communications, Advertising Age chronicles the feverish activities of ad agencies and marketing firms from Madison Avenue to Toledo, Ohio, and far beyond. In fact, what sets Advertising Age apart from rival publications is its consistent focus on international marketing. One recent feature story plumbed the depths of Argentina's economic crisis and its affect on ad spending. (The article in turn led to a sidebar discussion of the possibility of foreign ownership of Brazilian media companies.) Few major announcements or market trends escape the front-of-the-book news section, and a section called "The Week" reports on the absolute timeliest issues. "The Buzz" reads a bit like a gossip column, and "People & Players" details in words and large photos the goings-on of major industry personalities. Quick update on the marketing world
Advertising Age gives you a birds-eye view of what's happening in the world of advertising and marketing. A good amount of news, trends, and other information is packed into dozens of small blurbs, sidebars, and page-long articles. While I enjoy the content, I have two complaints. The physical format is in-between a newspaper and magazine meaning it is printed on glossy paper and staple bound on the left edge, but it is large and floppy. The other annoying feature is the number of articles that start on the first few pages but are continued somewhere in the back. ... Read more

Work with Purpose , Passion and Profit
"Work with Purpose, Passion and Profit" states the cover of the magazine "Worthwhile".I have read a couple issues of this magazine and did indeed find it worthwhile.

The idea behind the magazine is that there is more to work than just the endless pursuit of financial numbers, and what is often missing is the meaning and purpose beyond the numbers.The magazine is filled with articles and insights from individuals who have discovered a deeper calling in the workplace.

For example, the latest issue has an article from the former CEO of Coca-Cola who had to reinvent himself away from the corporate environment after ending his career there.Dennis Bakke, who wrote the book "Joy at Work", discusses his rather unique insights into how the workplace doesn't have to run the way it does.Further there are dozens of articles from well known figures like Scott Adams of Dilbert fame, and Morgan Spurlock who created the film "Super-size Me".

The only complaint I have is that while the articles are excellent and worth reading, they are too short.The magazine would do well to have less articles and more content with each.

Overall, I recommend picking up a subscription; you also will find the material "worthwhile".

Definitely Worth Your While

Worthwhile is a unique magazine.Similar to Fast Company, some of today's hottest business names are featured throughout the magazine, but you'd be more likely to see the article titles on the cover of O Magazine.For example, the first issue includes Kenneth Cole as one of eight people profiled in the "Joy, Meaning and How to Love Your (work) Life" feature section and Spanx founder Sara Blakely shares the objects and experiences that keep her inspired on the job. The magazine also covers "work" in a broader sense, as seen in "Finding the Right Fit" (for community service), "Identity Theft" (life after a corporate downsizing) and a gadgets column entitled, "Make Your Commute Fun."Overall, it's smart, fun, informative and inspiring.

Pricey, but high in quality.
While it won't make you smarter or guide you down the path to success (no matter what the television ads may say), The Wall Street Journal is a periodical that is indeed worth the paper it is printed on.

The articles are well written, and are all but guaranteed to contain the relevant information of the business world and beyond. If the Nation is talking about it over breakfast each morning, and the news networks are making use of their valuable "air time" to cover the story, then you can bet that the Journal is covering it too, and usually from a much deeper angle. When important news hits the airwaves today, it is prudent to check the journal for the "real story" tomorrow.

What may surprise most of you who are new to the journal is the range of topics found throughout the paper, as it isn't just a daily tally of the world of stocks. From entertainment to computing, it's all there (after all, business encompasses quite a bit).

If there is one drawback to the Wall Street Journal, it has to be the price point. Compared to most papers, the journal isn't cheap by any means. Overlook this though, and you'll not only catch up on some excellent reading, the boss might see you looking at it and become "inspired" by your intellect and give you a promotion and an office with a window.

The Best Paper to Start the Day
You could read the New York Times, the Washington Post, or USA Today, and get a reasonable feel for what's happening in the country. But if you want the best insight into finance, business, and the world economy, the Wall Street Journal is the way to start the day. Its news pages are clean, concise, and cover business news that other major papers catch the next day.

But it's more than a finance paper -- there are frequently personal stories of life in America, both on Column 4 of the front page, the front of the Marketplace section, and in Friday's Weekend Journal.

My only gripe is with the paper's extremely conservative editorial page, but it's interesting and provocative nonetheless.

Newspaper is great, Synpase Services is not!
I found that the newspaper was exactly what my previous revieweres had described, a journal of world events which have a potential impact on the Wall Street stocks, bonds and funds. Don't expect a complete news coverage but coverage of events relevant to the business world. All in all I am very happy with the quality of reporting.

What I am not happy with is the service provided by Synapse Services. Their local contractor in the South Bay Area, California did not deliver the journal on July 2nd and July 6th, 2004. When I called to ask about this, Synpase was not able to provide me with any useful information, and was not able to tell me if the newspaper was not delivered or was stolen instead. They did not make any effort to get to the bottom of the issue but instead advised me to wait for another day to see if service resumes.

Best Newspaper in the US
Every newspaper has a political orientation of some sort, and the WSJ is no exception; what differentiates the WSJ from every other mahjor newspaper in America is that it has a wall between News and Editorial sections. There's probably no other paper in the world whose news reporting is as free of politics, and that's part of what makes it such a great source of unbiased news and information.

The Op-Ed pages are also a treasure, particularly if you do subscribe to the Journal's libertarian-Republican point of view. And even if you don't it's always worth learning what the other side says. Leftists are well represented in the person of Al Hunt, whose weekly commentary keeps the reader abreast of what's current in Democratic circles. Writers from all sides are regularly represented in guest columns, too; last week's paper had an essay by Lech Walesa on the role Ronald Reagan played in supporting Solidarity and the Pope in the early days of their struggle againt the Polish government.

I've begun almost every weekday of the past twenty years with a cup of coffee and my copy of the WSJ. I can't imagine changing.

Best Magazine in America
Yes, technically the WSJ is a newspaper but frankly, it's really the best magazine in America right now.

For those who think it's just an expanded version of your home town paper's business section - you are missing out on quite a lot.

There are hundreds of magazines in America that don't cover as much ground in a monthly issue as the WSJ covers in a day EVERYDAY.

Obviously, there is lot of business news that everyone who is a manager at any level should be reading - but more importantly, it's information that is personalized. It's not just business news but how it affects your life or the lives of your neighbors. And perhaps, surprising to many - it is the most objective coverage out there. They are not "on" any side, they cover it all fairly and get both sides (or more sides) to every issue. They are not afraid to cover controversial topics such as out-sourcing or sweatshops. They cover it all in great detail and with knowledgeable perspective from all sides. They don't pull any punches and risk alienating advertisers on many features. They were early and covered corporate transgressions honestly and thoroughly - people might think of them as Wall Street's home town paper but they put journalism and their readers first.

But beyond the first "news/business news" section, it only gets better. Their features on marketing, travel, personal finanace, et al simply cannot be beat. Walter Mossberg is amazing. No one else who writes technology has the courage to actually use new technology as a "normal" person would and then tell us as it really is - if it's great, if it's useful or crap. He pulls no punches and sees right through the hype and the PR. Great stuff.

Even their sports and movies coverage is on target and fun - maybe the last place you'd expect to find such personality. They also have running feature where they do testing on everything from foods to tires to vacations. Each test and review is the equivilient of CONSUMER REPORTS - honest and detailed.

The WSJ packs more into each issue each day than 99% of the magazines in America do each month. It is news, entertainment, and fun knowledge EVERYDAY.

As for the so called conservative viewpoint - the editorial is one thin page in a 150-page coverage of news, business & life. Personally, I barely notice that page just as I notice there's a page on mansions for sale - neither interest me but then again, there are only about 300 other interesting features to get to first.

Quite simply, you are dumber without reading the WSJ everyday.*

great magazine, but not a membership
While I agree with the other reviewer that this is a truly marvelous and inspirational magazine, the potential buyer should be aware that this offer is just for the magazine subscription. SNAG membership plus subscription is twice the price as the magazine alone - unless you happen to be "attending an accredited educational institution full-time."

Fantastic for metals and jewelry enthusiasts
Whether you are a professional, student, or just interested in metalsmithing and jewelry, this is the magazine to subscribe to. I have been continually pleased with it and have found myself looking through back issues for ideas or just to admire. I am especially pleased with the annual exhibition in print that has an open juried exhibit within the magazine. You really get the chance to see the up and coming artists and fatastic new ideas.

Sponsored by the Society of North American Goldsmiths(SNAG), it is well funded with quality glossy paper and full color images. The articles may be a little short or lacking in content some of the time, and it may have more advertisements than desirable, but they are easily overlooked.

What, you still haven't decided? Ok, they also offer a student discount and full membership with SNAG (worth the subscription price in itself), information on conferences and events, hard to find vendors information (some of them I would never have heard of, even with the internet!), and did I mention the quality of the printed page?!
