5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!
I love New Moon it is perfect for the girl who isn't totally ready for J-14 or Teen People but has good enough stuff for young teens. It is filled with great stories and uplifting advice. 5 Stars all the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Mag Ever
I have been getting this magazine for about a year and a half, and I loved it ever since the very first issue. It is a magazine where girls can just speak their minds about whatever they want. I have even submitted a story to it, though I dont know if it got accepted or not. All in all, this magazine is perfect for any girl who just wants to be herself.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's Either One Extreme or Another...
In the case of girls' magazines, the most common kind is like Seventeen: they give advice about boys, makeup, fashion, and anything else a teenage girl might want to know. However, many find this offensive or sexist, as not all girls want to dress in the latest fashions and have boyfriends all the time. That's where New Moon comes in, a magazine for girls that isn't all about appearances. It's for girls who are genuine; girls who don't need a boyfriend to feel secure.

Or so they want you to believe. When I first read an issue of New Moon, I was immediately offended. The magazine functions on the pretense that it's real, not fake, but in fact it's based on the constant putting-down of girls who read magazines like Seventeen. Not only that, but the male sex is repeatedly insulted, with an entire section of the magazine devoted to griping about boys. If a boys' magazine had a section devoted to complaining about girls, wouldn't we find it easy to see it as offensive? New Moon is a classic example of sexism reversed. It tells girls they're nothing but mindless materialists if they wear makeup. It tells them they shouldn't have boyfriends. It doesn't reassure insecure girls; it merely drives them to a different artificial existence than Seventeen does.

It seems, in the world of girls' magazines, that there are only extremes: live life as a badly-dressed boy-hater; or as a boy-obsessed, mindless follower of pop culture. I, personally, would rather read Seventeen. At least it doesn't pretend to be something it's not--a wholesome magazine meant to make girls' lives more meaningful, something New Moon does not achieve.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for elementary kids
I am an elementary school library media specialist. I have always wanted to subscribe my library to New Moon and this year I did that. It sounded like a great magazine that would have a more substantial focus than, say, Girls' Life. And it is a great magazine. The reason I have given it four stars instead of five is that anytime you see an age range like 8-14, you need to think twice about whether this will be appropriate for your child. Fourteen year olds are developmentally in a much different place than eight year olds. It's like saying a third grader and an eighth grader can be satisfactorily served by the same information and point of view. This is still a great magazine, but in the first issue I received there was a long article about the problems you can have when getting your period. Even as progressive as I like to think I am, this seems a little advanced for seven year olds. And some of the topics are a little edgy... things which might not be a big deal in Portland, Oregon(I have visited there and found people there to be much more relaxed about these things than at home in Indiana) would raise a lot of eyebrows if shared with elementary students here in the heartland. I'm not saying this isn't a great magazine, I love it and I find its messages very positive, but I probably won't order it again for my library. And I would caution anyone who is thinking about ordering it that this magazine may not be appropriate for girls at the bottom of the age range the magazine serves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine for girls.
This mag is way better than those puff piece magazines (girls life/ Teen et.al.) which seem to try and help girls by selling them cosmetics, and give bad advice about boy friends. It has real stories and its well edited. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Our number 1 pick, even over Ladybug
My curious 3 1/2 yr old pre-schooler is absolutely fascinated by the themes in this magazine. A few of the articles are above his level which means I will be saving the magazine in a slipcase for future re-reading. The last issue I received was on the theme of magnification -- and we played with a magnifying glass and now more than a month later he enjoys pulling out a magnifying glass and magnifying all of the teeny tiny objects that catch his interest like the little metal balls in mazes, ants outside the house etc... Don't pass on this one, it has in depth articles, and plenty of pictures to engage a young ones interest too. What a great opportunity for open ended learning!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Magazine for Pre-Readers/Emerging Readers
I've been subscribing to Click, along with its sister publication, Ladybug, for about 2 years now. It's a great way to introduce the "real world" to my 5-year-old.

As an earlier review noted, each issue has a specific theme. For example, the last few issues were titled "At The Zoo", "In The Night Sky", "In The Islands", and "Busy Cities". This makes each issue like a mini-book, to be read and re-read, depending on your child's interest in the topic of the month.

Even if the current issue's topic doesn't engage your child, he/she will still want to read it, if only to see the recurring features, such as "Click & The Kids" and "Yo Wants To Know". This combination is a great way to introduce new topics in a familiar setting.

The writing is fresh and much more interesting to young minds than what you find in some other kids' magazines. Each story is well-illustrated. A given issue will have a variety of types of writing - cartoons, photoessays, non-fiction articles, 4-5 page fiction stories, and ideas of things to do.

This mix is great for kids with variable attention spans - if he/she can sit for 30 minutes, you can read the whole magazine. If 5 minutes, or 15 minutes, is today's limit, you can find something to fit that span.

Finally, as another reviewer noted, the magazine is written at several different comprehension levels, meaning that it spans the suggested age range quite well, with something for everyone, and that you can go back and read old issues with more mature eyes and get a new experience.

All in all, this magazine has been a great source of information for my son, and I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Click and we're off !
Click is a kids magazine that addresses the physical world in a way that appeals across a broad age range.

The Cricket Group seems to have cut its teeth on first literary magazines (Spider and Cricket), but Click is the complement, discussing the real concrete world of "people who work at night", "where things come from", "on the moon", and "surviving in the desert".

The articles range from early read-it-yourself to longer listening stories. Recurring cartoons with text "Clicks and the kids", "Yo wants to know" and "Beatrice Black Bear" are perennial favorites.

The real magic to Click is that it is a preferred read for both our 7 and 4 year olds. That is a tough spread, but Click has and is the favorite. When its time to read to both, or time for a warm comfort, Click is it.

When you order, find a safe place to keep the issues, because they will be read and re-read. And if you are doing the re-reading, you may want to refresh with last year's issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent magazine
My four year old and seven year old enjoy this magazine which is published by the Smithsonian and Cricket. Working with one theme (ie, gardens, animal homes, working animals, flight, communication, etc.) the magazine presents the material with stories, comic strips, non-fiction articles and games. The issues are 36 pages long, not too long to read in one sitting, but thorough and satisfying. The photographs and illustrations are attractive and informative. The only complaint I have about it is that there are only nine issues in twelve months, a problem in my house since my older children's magazines come every month. Otherwise, this is an excellent magazine and well worth the money. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disney(world) Magazine
I agree with the others here who have pointed out that this is truly a magazine about Disneyworld. The entire point of the magazine seems to be to encourage the reader to visit the Orlando half of the American Disney Empire. I have rarely seen an article on the real Disneyland. I have been very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I have been receiving the Disney Magazine for the past three years. I absolutely love it. I look forward to every issue. I read it from cover to cover at least five time, but my favorites are the hidden pics and the calendar of events as to what is going on when and where at the theme parks. I also love when there are articles from behind the scenes at the theme parks. I have been a huge fan of Disney since I was a child. Having a subscription to this magazine is just one more way I can enjoy Disney. So thank you for giving me this opportunity to say thank you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be worse...
Disney Magazine isn't exactly what I was hoping for--it has very little to do with animation, or what the Disney Company is doing, and a heck of a lot to do with Disneyworld in Orland, Florida.

This may be alright for some, but if I want to know more about ANY park, it would be the original and greatest, Disneyland!

I think Disney Magazine needs to get their priorties straight, or change their name to 'Disneyworld Quarterly'

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but...
I wouldn't pay money for it. We get it as a part of our Annual Pass to the true park (Disneyland). The magazine, for the most part, seems to be a giant advertisment for DisneyWorld. Most articles and recipes are from the Orlando parks. There have been a few good articles on animation and filmmaking, but aside from that, it's not really worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I was mistaken that this magazine was for children. I purchased a subscription for my 5 year old daughter and she was HIGHLY disappointed. If it is for kids, they must be much older so that they can comprehend the more difficult reading. Adults who enjoy Disney may want this magazine, but it is not for kids under 11-12. There is nothing fun about it and I'm asking for a refund. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars hi!!!!!!!!!
I love Nick Jr. Magazine. It is very fun and interesting. I love Face From Nick Jr. On the t.v.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Kids and Parents
Nick Jr. is divided in to 3 sections - one for parents, one for parents and kids, and one pull out just for kids. My 4 year old son loves the pull out section and we go through it cover to cover. It's not real large - usually 10 pages, but it usually has stories, blues clue games, small activities and information presented in a kid-friendly way and featuring their favorite nick jr. friends. I've found plenty of interesting articles for myself in this journal, as well as some cool activities and recipes in the parent/child section. If your child likes the Nick Jr. shows, they will like the magazine. Be warned though, although there are no adds in the child only portion of the magazine, there are a fair amount in the rest of the mag.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nick Jr. Magazine is the best!
I really like this magazine because it has great activities for the kids and wonderful articles for the adults. My daughter looks forward to getting the magazine in the mail because she knows that we are going to have a lot of FUN.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful parenting tool! It's FUN and GOOD FOR YOU!
We've gotten our first few of these, and I couldn't be more pleased. 5 stars means just that! I don't see how this could be improved! It has pullout sections, games, things to do together, as well as articles for parents! I get as much enjoyment from it as my kids do (5, 7, 13). The recent issue is how to make school subjects into games at home--it's excellent! As a parent pursuing a teaching credential, I give this one 2 thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun-Filled Magazine for parents and tots!
I found this to be a fun filled magazine that my four year old daughter loved to look at. There were many fun filled activities for her to take part in and some great craft ideas and also top[ notch information just for parents.
A real winner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good magazine for boy scouts
My son is a Boy Scout and really enjoys this magazine. Jokes and puzzles are probably more appropriate for Cub age than the big boys but my son still thinks they are funny. A lot like the scout skits.

Not sure I would pay the money to subscribe on my own - he gets it from his scout troop. It is a healthy, wholesome magazine though and there are VERY few of those out there for boys this age.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lame
Back in the 1980's, yours truly was a husky lad, squeezing himself into his trusty Scout uniform. Want to keep up on the latest in Scouting? Well, read Boys' Life! It had some fine features on Scouting, and some really awful, not even close to funny cartoons featuring "Pedro" the burro, and "Dink and Duff". ...my Dad bought me a subscription, and I thought it was quite lame. Fast forward to 2004: What is keeping this magazine alive? It is so anemic, so fluffy. I guess the dumbing down started by "Maxim" has even affected a G-rated kids' magazine. It still has "Pedro" and "Dink and Duff", but not much else. It was awful then, and even worse now. Were kids ever innocent enough to enjoy this? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the BEST!
Growing up with Walt's Disneyland, I was hungry for anything relating to the hidden facts and history of this most Magic of Kingdoms. Once I discovered "The 'E' Ticket", it turned out to be everything I had hoped for and more. I imediately subscribed and ordered every back issue, grateful that I have a totally complete set. ("Ticket" is totally subscription supported and accepts NO ADVERTISING!!!)

Using incredible rarely or never befor seen archival construction photos, glimpses or original artwork, and extensive interviews with Imagineers past and present, "Ticket" sets the record strait, puts rumors to rest, and finally gives long-overdue credit to the brilliant men and women that created Disneyland, it's attractions, shows and more.

"The 'E' Ticket" is more than appropriatly titled, and like Disneyland itself, nothing short of a MUST for fans of Walt Disney and Disney Parks alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Disney Theme Park Magazine
E-Ticket brings to life the story of one attraction each issue. The story comes to life through the words of the imagineers that worked on the ride, as well as pictures taken of the attraction.
Some rides are no longer at Disneyland, so for a young man like myself, it's cool to see ideas of the past, like the Mine Train. Even seeing rides that are still around today is interesting to read about. Some of the rides have changed so much, that they are far different than their former self.
If your interested in the technical views of the park, this is also a great magazine for you. The magazine goes into detail on how the ride works, and why some of them have failed.
For the true fan of Disney's theme parks, this is the best magazine for you. Brings you back into the magic four times a year, without paying the extra cash to go to the park. ... Read more
