From Amazon.com

The Hollywood Reporter is one of the most un-Hollywood-like magazines being published today. You won't find any of the chatty gossip or full-page flash of Peoplemagazine, nor will you find the same range of topics (with the occasional lack of depth) of Entertainment Weekly. Rather, this magazine is the definitive source for information on the entertainment industry in the U.S. (there's an international issue published weekly), including movie, TV, theater, and DVD reviews; casting calls; box office rankings; and weekly MPAA ratings; as well as overviews of everything from the music industry to the commercial real estate market. While the entertainment industry itself is clearly the intended audience, anyone who wants to see the Hollywood that exists beneath the surface glitz that has become synonymous with Hollywood will find this magazine well worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars For people in the business
Hollywood Reporter is not for the layman. It's a business magazine dealing with the deals of Hollywood, the numbers and profit. It's still interesting, but it's not for everyone. I tried a trial of the magazine and they would arrive a few days later. The July 8th issue arrived on July 11th. Yesterday's news is old news.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Entertainment Industry Resource
If you're interested in going beyond the gossip and into the mechanics of the entertainment industry, then the Hollywood Reporter is for you. It covers television, film, video games, music and more. Find out about the latest business deals, contracts, technology and trends in the industry. I recommend this newspaper for anyone in (or wanting to break in) to the professional end of the entertainment industry. If you're looking for more consumer-friendly entertainment news, I recommend Entertainment Weekly. If you're looking for information about celebrity life, I recommend People or US Weekly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Turn up the Heat!
Without a doubt the best weekly magazine in the UK. Possibly even good enough to rival US 'People' magazine! It contains celebrity stories, celebrity interviews, style tips, humorous articles and pictures and reviews of the latest movies, music and books. Not to mention a weekly tv guide with digital channels included.

In short, a magazine NOT to be missed!

3-0 out of 5 stars Britain's US Weekly, good gossipy fun!
This magazine is all pictures, a few captions and lots of salacious gossip on mostly British, some interantional celebrities. Even if you have no clue who the people are, the magazine's humiliation and innuedo filled editorial slant will entertain you.

5-0 out of 5 stars the uk hearts heat magazine
a british weekly gossip multi-award wining magazine with and well a deserved one at that!

If you love your shallow pop and tv gossip buy heat! All the other British gossip magazines are copying but to no avail will they best HEAT !

Buy if you esp love: reality tv (big brother, pop idol etc), david beckham, posh spice and eastenders! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore Spike Fetts review!!!
Spike Fett is mistaken. The 100 Greatest Moments he mentions is not for ALL TIME. They were the top 100 moments of the magazines lifetime, which is only 8 years.

This is one of the best film/dvd magazines out there. I highly reccomend it. It has awesome articles, reliable reviews, and great color photos.

Another thing I like about it is that its an British publication, so you get a different opinion and point of view.

Its a great magazine.

1-0 out of 5 stars A joke to anyone who knows anything about cinema.
This magazine recently (April 05) featured what they felt were the 100 greatest movie moments of all time.Number 1 was the sing-along scene from MAGNOLIA.Other moments in the top 10 included the credits from AUSTIN POWERS 3 and one of Eugene Levy's quotes from AMERICAN PIE.Keep in mind, these are the 100 greatest movie moments of ALL TIME.

This mag/rag is nothing more than the film section of FHM stretched out to full-issue length.Utter trash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Pictures
"Total Film" is a magazine I discovered while waiting at Heathrow airport at six in the morning.Since then, whenever I see it I buy it.The contents of this magazine are incredible! Though the language can be PG-13 or higher sometimes, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The articles are fun and fast, as the pictures (which are usually actual pictures, and not cheesy snapshots sold to them by tourists). I especially like the occasional "abridged script" on the back page. I definately, recommend this magazine to movie and entertainment lovers everywhere! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Skip a Single Word
Among the magazines I read (The New Yorker, The Economist, Atlantic Monthly, blah blah blah), Funny Times is the only one I read cover to cover. I start at the beginning and read it straight through, without skipping a word. I don't want to miss anything!

There are columns by Will Durst, Jim Hightower, Dave Barry, Andy Borowitz, and cartoons -- Tom the Dancing Bug, Too Much Coffee Man, Ted Rall, The K Chronicles.

The only bad thing I can say about Funny Times is that the ink comes off on your fingers, just like a regular newspaper. So keep a bottle of hand sanitizer nearby when you read it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best part of the newspaper
This monthly tabloid delivers 24 pages of the best part of the newspaper - editorial cartoons and humor columns. Topics range from politics to relationships to all the quirks of American life in the new millenium. With authors as diverse as Dave Barry, Andrei Codrescu, and Dr. Science, and dozens of cartoons in each issue, the left-of-center political viewpoints are interspersed with plenty of silly fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars A collection of political cartoons and funny stories
Are you the type of person who picks up a newspaper or magazine and reads the editorial cartoons first? Are you familiar with the work of Tom Tomorrow, Marian Henley, and Ted Rall? Each month the Funny Times provides a tabloid-sized collection of more than a hundred left-leaning political cartoons and humorous observations on life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If Spin was written by Brits...
There used to be tons of music magazines in Britain, but gradually they've disappeared, giving way to lifestyle magazines that run the gamut from celebrity gossip, to articles on (of all things) health. Q has always been focused on music and is pretty much the best barometer of the British music scene. It's stylish, irreverent and intelligent. They're aren't afraid to offend the interviewees neither.

A subscription to Q will keep you up to date on breaking new bands, in-depth interviews with musicians, latest album reviews, (many of which don't get US releases, and certainly aren't played on Clear Channel radio stations) and some really great photography. All of this is delivered with the usual wry humour of good British journalism.

$140 is a lot to pay in one go. I buy it monthly from my local bookshop where the price works out a bit higher, but only because I keep moving house and can't be dealing with changing my address, and I like to support local stores. It's worth bearing in mind that on average 4 issues a year come with full length CDs which mitigates the initial outlay a bit.

Go on... subscribe, you know you want to.

2-0 out of 5 stars good, but not worth the price
First of all, I like this magazine. Q really is the best music-themed magazine out there. But with only 12 issues a year, 120 bucks is way too expensive. I think you will be disappointed if you spend this much on it (well, on any magazine, for that matter).

4-0 out of 5 stars Very informative...
...even though I have to agree with the previous reviewer that they do have some favorites (inc. Beatles,Radiohead,Oasis etc) and you find them on almost every issue. But if you sort reviews carefully you'll be alright...

5-0 out of 5 stars Considering a 'Q' subscription...you should, too!
Q magazine is a brilliant magazine laden with British humor, bonus CDs, special edition magazines, and more. Being a fan, I bought the Led Zeppelin special edition issue, and it was more complete than any novel! It was about 150 pages and contained full-color pictures, info on each album, concert, experience, myth, book, review and bootleg imaginable. When critiqueing an album, they used the opinions of others and the band members as well as their own. This magazine CARES-rather than gushing, ranting, or offering biased opinions, it gives the impartial truth about bands-new and old.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Rolling Stone just won't cut it...
I first picked up Q in desperation after deciding that I just couldn't take any more of Rolling Stone's pretention. Their forays into "serious" political and social commentary are laughable at best -- how do you take seriously an article on Bush's economic proposals when it's prefaced by another considering Britney's thong? I don't read RS for their banal political insights, which are shallow and misinformed -- I read it for the music.

Well, no more. Q has more music and less filler. Even their music coverage is better, extending beyond the typical Xtina/Creed/pop drivel that is recycled so often in American mags. They give you more new music in one issue than RS could in a year's subscription. Yes, the Brits have their own pop divas that Q loves to love, but even just the change of pace is refreshing (at least it's not the *same* pop divas). They manage to pack in an astonishing number of interviews, up-and-coming artist profiles, interesting features, plus literally hundreds of reviews in each issue. Add the bonus CDs, their willingness to cover little-known bands from all over, and the standard British humor, and you've got the best music mag for your buck.

Alas, it is a hefty price tag. For those of us stateside who can't afford the subscription, CMJ is also a fine mag in its own right. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for we lazy
This item is perfect for those of us too lazy to poke around our old back issues of Mad magazine in order to find that important, life-changing article. This title contains reprints of items previously published in Mad magazine. I can't say that I recall having had ever seen anything new or different or unique or really all that funny in this, but my personal collection of back issues of Mad magazine weighs several tons, so this title is a lot of help.

This magazine is super thick, giving the buyer several pages to read, or to use in whichever other way the reader chooses. Most are embroidered with "Drawn Out Dramas". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Artwork and Graphics
I've been checking out FEED for years now. They have the slickest artwork of any hip hop magazine. Whether it's Graffitti or just incredible graphics, this mag is polished.

OH yeah, the articles are cool too :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Flipping The Script
In a time where Hip Hop is dominating our culture, it's good to see a magazine that can provide a balance for our youth and young adults. After checking out Feed Magazine, I honestly believe that it is one of the best Christian magazines ever made. I say this because it's fresh, relevant, and informative. Feed Magazine offers Christians and those who are trying to live a better lifestyle, the opportunity to learn about Christian artists that promote positive messages by using the Hip Hop culture. This magazine can stand on it's own next to XXL, Vibe, or Source. I say this because unfortunately, the previous mentioned magazines silently promote artists that popularize sex, money, and a prison mentality via gangsta life. Feed offers a positive alternative and allows its readers to see how other young Holy Hip Hop artists are putting it down for God. At a time where a lot of young people are confused about life's issues and looking for music to get them through, Feed can fill a void that will help others turn to Holy Hip Hop music for answers that are real truth. Thank you Feed for not just promoting what society wants, but for providing a positive alternative to what society needs.

4-0 out of 5 stars PICK IT UP
Remember when Hip Hop and Urban Music actually said something other than Buy Nike or Drink Sprite? Remember when Hip Hop was about quality in music and quality in lifestyle and culture? FEED brings that back with a full color magazine featuring articles on positive urban culture. Breaking the mold set by self-proclaimed urban culture magazines, FEED features regular articles showcasing graffing, breakdancing (b-boying/girling whatever you want to call it)and true critical reviews. Pushing the barriers FEED has discussed issues in all facets of Urban culture such as getting distribution for indie artists, a breakdown about production and what to look out for, and even dealing with relationship drama.

Long story short - PICK IT UP TODAY, it's well worth your money and you won't be disappointed. This magazine makes other Hip Hop culture magazines look like a "See Dick Run" Reader. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic SF Magazine
This magazine is fantastic. It's a shame it can't be found in Australia any more. I love the pictures and articles, on every SF show known to SF fans. Maybe it's time to ship some more out to the SF starved fans here in Oz. A quality magazine like Starlog is hard to find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Passionate about all things Science Fiction
This is the only magazine that I've maintained my subscription to for more than a decade. If you are passionate about science fiction you will love this magazine. It covers all topics related to Science Fiction. Obviously this includes movies and television, but in every issue there are regular features that cover what is new in science fiction books, animes, games and comics.

While I enjoy their coverage of the newest big-budget, blockbuster movies, I also appreciate that they understand that there are many fans with less mainstream tastes. Starlog regularly has articles devoted to long forgotten or "cult" science fiction tv and movies of the past. Heck, even most of the advertisements are science fiction oriented.

If you want to know what is happening in the world of sci-fi this is your source. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mississippi issue
Blues lovers should check out the Mississippi double issue (vol. 35, #2 & #3). This is an in-depth look at the blues scenes (historical and living) of blues performers, locations, events, etc. all over the state.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This is the premier magazine for anyone with a more than passing interest in the blues. The articles focus not only on the major artists, but also publicize musicians who haven't yet hit the big time or "crossed-over." If you love the music and want a feel for where it is going, and what's going on behind it, then this is the first place to turn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best there is in genre(could be better :-)
Outburn is essential reading for those interested in what is left of the "real" alternative music genres, from Industrial to Goth to Electronika. The bands' profiled are almost all below the radar, which makes for interesting reading. The reviews are somewhat slanted, anything shiny or refined is usually slammed.

I think more coverage of electronic pop (aka Modern Synthpop) would be nice, but then again I am biased that way.

Forget AP, Spin, RS or CMJ, this is where to find out about the real underground/alternative rock scene!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite magazine
Of all the music orientated magazines that I subscribe, Outburn is my personal favorite. This is the only magazine that caters to my favorite music...techno, goth, and industrial music. Rolling Stone stopped being relevant 10 years ago. Spin magazine is a joke. Alternative Press is also a joke and has stopped being relevant many, many moons ago. I discovered Outburn when I saw an article on one of my personal favorite bands of all time, VNV Nation. Rolling Stone, Spin, and AP wouldn't touch VNV Nation with a ten foot pole because it isn't popular with the brainwashed masses. That was last year. Since then, I have been a loyal reader as well as a loyal subscriber to the quarterly magazine. What appeals to me the most about Outburn is that the magazine covers more than just goth and industrial music but also lesser known metal bands like Lacuna Coil and Opeth. I'm not a metal fan by a long shot but it is refreshing to read a magazine in which heavy metal bands are the [pooh] that MTV and Clear Channel, er, radio plays non-stop (i.e Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit). Outburn covers lesser known metal bands that MTV wouldn't dare play except maybe on the new incarnation of "Headbanger's Ball". I also enjoy the original questions the writers throws at the artists and bands they interview. They also don't sound patronizing or condescending one bit. And unlike Spin magazine which has now become a forum for video games and fashion as opposed to music, Outburn sticks to what it knows best which is music. Although Marilyn Manson is on the cover of the new issue of Outburn, at least I can be grateful that the editors didn't throw Good Charlotte on the cover. Another thing I love about Outburn is the free cd offer for subscribers. Nothing beats like a free cd. My only problem with Outburn is that it is a quarterly magazine, not a monthly magazine. I wish that rags like AP, Spin, and RS were quarterly magazines and Outburn were monthly but for all its worth, at least Outburn is reliable in terms of quality articles and doesn't insult my intelligence by throwing Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera on the cover like RS did recently. Outburn is truly one of the few magazines that I can enjoy reading word for word.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite magazine
Of all the music magazines I subscribe to, Outburn is my favorite magazine. It is the only magazine that I know of that covers everything from Apoptygma Berzerk to Wumpscut. This magazine actually covers artists and bands that most radio stations and MTV/VH1 won't touch with a ten foot pole. Although I don't care for Marilyn Manson, who is on the new issue of Outburn, I will definitely take him over [bands] like Good Charlotte and Linkin Park. What I also appreciate about Outburn is that they don't clutter the magazine with photo spreads of anorexic models wearing the latest fashion wear or articles on the latest video games. Outburn actually talks about music that appeals to people who are turned off by artists and bands such as Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne. Not only does the magazine discuss about two of my favorite genres of music, goth and industrial music, but also a wide range of music like techno, metal (and not that godawful nu metal), and lesser known alternative bands. My only beef with Outburn is that the magazine is a quarterly magazine as opposed to monthly (like those icky rags like Spin and Alternative Press). Still I will take Outburn over Spin and Alternative Press any day.

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTBURN MAGAZINE
