Best for Roc n Espanol
Having followed,but driftingfrom the roc n Espanol scene for sometime now I find this to be an informative bilingual magazine. The groups written about are from throughout Latin America and this is a good place to get a heads up on some of the up and coming acts as well the established rokeros. They typically interview a "big name" band suchas Jaguares, La Ley, Mana, Manu Chao, El Gran Silencio, LosPericos, Aterciopelados, Molotov, Fabulosos Cadilacs, El Tri, Cafe Tacuba or any other number of bands. Sometimes artists interview each other as was the case with David Byrne and Manu Chao in the summer 2001 issue.The music covered is primarily of the alt/Latino genre but they do also cover English speaking bands such as Morcheeba, Tricky, The Crystal Method, Beck Depeche Mode, Air ,Gorillaz etc. Also the World Beat section is excellent and globetrots covering those countries that are non-Western. Predominantly a Spanish magazine the reviews are short, sweet and plentiful. They also have a juicy gossip section, radio hit lists from various points on the map, movie reviews and current band tour information. Often times the magazine will dedicate a whole issue to one topic such as electronica. This magazine is great source for trends in music and the rippling effect that pulsates and inundates the Spanish speaking world from the U.S.A. downto Patagonia. With relatively few ads the glossy pictures are on relatively thick paper stockand there is usually some cool art work in every issue. If you are into or would like to know more about roc n Espanol this magazine is for you. Coming out of Long Beach,California, the delivery is timely and without glitches.
