terrible service
I subscribed (not through Amazon). Two months later I received a bill. A month later I received a renewal notice. Still no magazine. Finally, after several requests and a wait of months, I received a partial refund check (about a third of what I paid). Unabashedly cutesy in tone, the bimonthly Cats & Kittens may have the more sober Cats magazine beat in aw-shucks reverie and advertising revenues, but the serious-minded reader finds a relative dearth of hard news on combating flea infestations and geriatric feline care. Still, it's nice that that lady from Peoria with the Sagittarius Maine Coon can get tips from a practicing pet astrologer (who knew?), while cats themselves can write in detailing their problems with their owners and count on receiving sound advice. In fairness, despite the latter column's conceit, most of the info imparted is health-related, and the magazine also includes numerous in-depth features and engaging anecdotal essays. Cute!!
If you love cats, like I do, this is your magazine. I love this, it's soo cute. And to all you dog lovers out there... GET LOST! No offence, but this is definitly not your magazine. ;) I personally don't like dogs, but if you do check out Dog Fancy.:)

This magazine is just too cute! I LOVE cats and this magazine is such a treat for cat lovers. The articles are funny and informative. I enjoy the articles featuring a different breed of cat, like the Egyptian Mau and other breeds I knew very little about until reading this magazine. This magazine is full of helpful advice like caring for your cat on a budget and how to take good pictures (a skill I'm STILL perfecting!)

How can you resist articles like "Were You a Cat in a Former Life?" I know I can't!

Sometimes its Ok, sometimes its not
I have read Bird Times many times. The articles are much less complicated than the Bird Talk magazine articles, which are fairly simplistic as well. I recommend that you look at the cover and see if there are any articles that you want to read. This magazine usually takes me 15-20 minutes to read, and that is if there is an interesting article. Fewer ads than Bird Talk.

Expectations & Perception
This magazine will sometimes feature fish no one else has.

The magazine is filled with more advertisements than content. There have been a few gems (Blue Ring Octopus overview in 2000) but most articles are accompanied by no photos and give no real value of importance to an aquarium keeper. Most articles are so heavy in opinion and personal memories about their past experiences that can be of no interest to anyone not personally close to the writer(s) that it winds up a boring read barely worth keeping for the few photos of fish that attracted the reader to buy the magazine in the first place.

I've read a few good articles, like I said, but would never consider telling anyone to buy a subscription to this over priced magazine.

Used to be great, but has gone WAY downhill
Years ago, this was a great magazine, and all the top experts contributed. That was then, this is now.

Often contradictory, frequently confusing, and seldom edited, too many of the articles in FAMA just do not hold up to close scruitiny. In recent issues I've seen:

* Contradictory advice in two separate articles,
a certain indicator of lack of editorial oversight

* An article about keeping a beta in a flower
bowl, which is cruel by any standards

* Rambling, off topic content which any competent
editor would have cut

* Articles which add no particular value to anyone,
including some strange pseudo fiction that
nobody I've spoken with can understand

Best advice: Subscribe to one of the other magazines. While none are perfect, all are better than this. ... Read more
