5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Europe
Burda fashion magazine is considered the best in its category in Europe.
They sell monthly editions in england, france, spain, germany, russia, check republic...and more.
Each magazine includes the patterns for all the clothes shown, and they cover classic clothes, more fashionable ones, children, young, plus sizes in each number.
You'll also find special clothes like sport, men, festive, summer now and then. For example you can get night dresses in the december issue or bride gowns in April issue, and swimsuits in summer.

Each number includes some sewing ideas for the home, cooking recipes, some knittings, beauty reports...the magazine is very complete.

But the top of all are the patterns, because they are excellent. Their fitting is considered the best. And their pants are wonderful, they fit very well but are totally confortable to sit or move. Even Mrs Betzina recomends them.

They also sell special numbers along the year or single patterns. You can even buy "made to meassure" patterns from them. If you want to see the contents of each number before buying or complete info about their services visit www.burdamoden.com
The page its in german but soon will come also in english and spanish.

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
I have recently sent in a request to receive the magazine and can't wait for it to arrive. I used to subscribe a few years ago but fell out of sewing for a while. Every time I received the magazine I wondered why anyone pays for patterns. I also wonder why no American magazine will include even one pattern in it for clothing. Haven't had time to make many of the clothes, but like a fashion magazine it helps you shop! It is an extra step to trace patterns but so what, its free!
Each pattern is rated for beginner through advanced, each has variations and clear pictures of what it looks like. Worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sewing magazine
This is an excellent magazine with sewing patterns provided for every model in it. Every issue contains several patterns for blouses, skirts, jackets, pants, dresses and children's clothing, in 4-5 sizes. The contents of the 12 issues follow the seasons, so the models are very versatile.
There are also very helpful detailed step-by step explanations on how to sew. The level of difficulty varies, making sure that there are always a few simple patterns for those that are just beginning to learn.
One may also look for Burda's special magazines such as "Blouses, Skirts, Trousers", "Burda Kids' Fashions", "Burda Plus" and "Burda Petite Fashions".

5-0 out of 5 stars Who Needs to Buy Patterns Anymore?.....
I have been getting this magazine for almost 14 years now. It is one of the most interesting fashion magazines and the most fun. Not only do you get to keep up on fashion, but you actually get the patterns to make almost everything that is in the magazine!

I have found Burda patterns to be better fitting, more stylish, and often more practical than many of the paper patterns I have purchased in the store, although I still buy patterns now and then for specific styles. I usually will consult Burda first before buying any patterns from the US companys in the sewing stores.

Each issue of Burda comes with between 40-60 patterns in it for clothing in different ranges. Every month comes with misses sizes from anywhere from size 10 (american) to size 18 (american). The sizing is written up as European, but translated nicely for Americans to use as well. I find it easy to follow.

There is always a section for plus sized women with decent styles in it for women.

A few times a year there are men's patterns for everything from pants to coats.

There are patterns every month for youth from infant to teen girls.

Each month has trendy features, practical every day patterns, urban focus patterns, and there is always a themed pattern from folklore, bikers,African safari, to western American. The change of location and fashion focus is refreshing. Photography is usually quite fun too.

Burda is printed in Germany, and often features European designers. There is an opportunity to have readers design a pattern and it might get printed in an issue. That is usually my favorite section. I find the readers to be very innovative and the patterns they include are most interesting and fun to make.

There is a craft section which is often not too great, in my opinion. They used to have recipes which I used to love, but that has disappeared- for now, anyway. I hope that they will come back again.

For $5.00 a month, if you can discipline yourself to take a few extra minutes to trace out the patterns from the centerfold pattern papers, you can have practically any kind of pattern that you might need in a year's time. They are cut well, and run pretty true to size, depending on the style, of course.

The seam allowances do have to be added onto the pieces after they are traced out. I do this by eye when I cut out the pieces.. The pattern pieces for each pattern are color coded making it easy to trace them to tissue paper. With a little time invested to learn the method (which is very easy), I have enjoyed every single pattern that I have made from this magazine, and I have made a lot of them.

If you do not have the opportunity to make something from every issue, you have still only spent $5 on the magazine for that month, which is as much as most other magazines you might just throw away.

Comes in a plastic bag, which I love and shows up at the end of the month previous to that dated on the issue. In other words, March's issue will show up the last day or two of February. It is translated in England and sent to the New Jersey distribution center where it is mailed out to US customers.

I have been very happy with this magazine, and it is the only magazine I have consistently subscribed to (it is my bday present every year) without stopping for that long. It is just so much fun to see what styles are coming through Europe and know that I can make most of them if I feel like it right from the magazine!

5-0 out of 5 stars What an addition to your Pattern Library!
I vote strongly in favor of Burda Moden pattern magazine. I sew a great deal, particularly wearable art, and use both original and commerical patterns. I like having fashion news, pattern updates, the actual patterns, and sewing technique details all arriving at once. Yes, all the patterns are printed together, which means tracing off your selection - which is a good idea for conservation of any sewing pattern. That huge sheet will never fold back up into the magazine - I bag both the originial pattern sheet and the periodical in a large ziplock bag. I agree that Burda is easier for the experienced sewer, but all can learn to add seam allowances or a clever new technique. The ideas presented are numerous and the patterns immediately accessible. In addition, I find Burda patterns to fit well and to offer more fitting solutions (explained) than our domestic companies. And for those who treasure their pattern libraries, having a magazine of actual patterns arrive, and not just advertisements for same, is very satisfying. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative girl
I LOVE Vogue living from Australia. I don't know what it is about countries outside of the US but their design sense is more pure and absolutely more creative. This magazine rings all the right bells with me and I have never throw a copy away. If you crave style that is different from every other magazine that is sold on the mainland US I would say spring the extra couple bucks for this gem.

2-0 out of 5 stars Brighton Mums Ahoy!
Calling all Brighton Mums! This magazine presents a relatively contrived viewpoint on contemporary interior design, smothered in advertising for crisp, white bed linen and pressed quartz bench tops. A pretty lousy effort as Australia's top selling interior design magazine. Though designed for the wealthy mainstream Brighton market, Vogue Interiors will satisfy anyone who doesn't quite know what the colour brown will "work" with. VI's current editor is David Clark, Art Director is Anna Utzon and Interior Design Editor is Matt Page. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great magazine, but not a membership
While I agree with the other reviewer that this is a truly marvelous and inspirational magazine, the potential buyer should be aware that this offer is just for the magazine subscription. SNAG membership plus subscription is twice the price as the magazine alone - unless you happen to be "attending an accredited educational institution full-time."

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for metals and jewelry enthusiasts
Whether you are a professional, student, or just interested in metalsmithing and jewelry, this is the magazine to subscribe to. I have been continually pleased with it and have found myself looking through back issues for ideas or just to admire. I am especially pleased with the annual exhibition in print that has an open juried exhibit within the magazine. You really get the chance to see the up and coming artists and fatastic new ideas.

Sponsored by the Society of North American Goldsmiths(SNAG), it is well funded with quality glossy paper and full color images. The articles may be a little short or lacking in content some of the time, and it may have more advertisements than desirable, but they are easily overlooked.

What, you still haven't decided? Ok, they also offer a student discount and full membership with SNAG (worth the subscription price in itself), information on conferences and events, hard to find vendors information (some of them I would never have heard of, even with the internet!), and did I mention the quality of the printed page?! Go, go now, subscribe. You won't regret it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother... ZERO (0) Stars!
Don't even bother paying this assinine subscription price! Not when Wallpaer, as a magazine, has steadily been slipping into mediocrity for some time now. Looking at this periodical in the bookstore is really your best option, because then you at least GET the option of paying lot's of money for a magazine that typically has one or two interesting article/spreads. Surface, for my money is superior, or at least comparable in many ways; namely it's cheaper subscription/news-stand price, and consistancy. When wallpaper is on, it's great, and when it's not, it's just plain expensive. Buyer beware, indeed!

4-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced here-don't buy
Magazine is cool. but cheaper if you buy direct from wallpaper.com. Don't pay this outrageous price/

4-0 out of 5 stars glamour, design, wallpaper invented an aesthetic
okay, so the price tag and the fact that everyone has ripped off the wallpaper look may make you skeptical about this magazine, but you've got to admit that the clever articles and sexy photography, the many ideas showcased and the beautiful images together make wallpaper* one excellent magazine. i still think that the content is great, although as i say unlike a couple of years ago wallpaper* aren't the only people putting out this kind of magazine anymore.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hurry up and wait. And then wait some more.
This outfit deserves a negative star or a partial one star at best. I, too, became so frustrated with spotty, late or no delivery and megawatt attitude, I decided 9 months ago to purchase this magazine from the store, if at all again. For a time, I would get my copy a week or two AFTER I saw it at the newsstands. Then, towards the end of a two-year fling, two issues were skipped. They used to use their US distributor as the delivery excuse; then of late it was the change of ownership. The Florida fax that at one time worked was still being published in the magazine even when it didn't work. Many e-mails, international faxes and even a phone call or two to England at my expense later, the least frustrating resolution was to cancel my subscription and ask for a refund for the renewal (which I finally got, albeit the check was in sterling; they said they couldn't credit my credit card!). I never did receive those two issues that I had paid for; nor did I get my money back for them. Of course, I was told I could purchase the missing ones as back issues!!! Those that I had already paid for and never received!

They have no concept of customer service (and never did), are not set up to transact internationally and are deadbeat communicators. It was as if we were not speaking the same language. No matter how clear I made myself, I'd get back a response as it it belonged to somebody's else's problems with them. Lastly, in my opinion, the quality has gone down in the past few years, too. Is it really worth it...and what with that hefty price hike, too? Caveat emptor! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great New Magazine from PaperWorks!
I just picked up the first copy of CardMaker, a new magazine from PaperWorks. The magazine is packed with card ideas - many of them using stamping techniques.I was impressed with the variety of the projects and the different materials that could be used.In short, there is a card for everyone. As a bonus the magazine also full-size patterns included in the back.No more adjusting your copy machine to get just the right size!

This issue (May 2005) included a whole section on pop-up cards and how to construct them. There are tips and examples and even some product reviews to help you in your quest for the perfect pop-up.

The cards are divided into "Feature" sections. This issue included features on making cards to sell ("Making Cards to Sell"), baby cards and announcements ("Oh Baby, Baby, Baby!"), spring cards ("Spring Is In Bloom"), mother's day cards ("Love is Another Word for Mother") and love cards, such as engagement, bridal shower, and wedding ("Hearts Entwined").Each feature showcased numerous cards to make.

CardMaker also has an "In Every Issue" section which includes product reviews, creating cards with stickers, quilling, words and sentiments, and photos just to name a few. The back pages are dedicated to card basics from cutting and tearing to stamping and embellishing.

I was very pleased with the issue - the card styles were so eclectic that there was truly something for everyone!

The Homes of Color Magazine is a superb publication of beautiful homes of culturally diverse home owners. The magazine displays a wide range of ideas, which showcases homes that range from reasonable priced to exquisite mansions.
