4-0 out of 5 stars Fun (and funny) stuff!
I've read several anime publications, and this one is my favorite. Not only is it a good news bulletin of upcoming DVD releases, manga, game, and toy news, I enjoy the injokes built into the magazine by the editing staff. I like the sort of smarty-pants style the articles are written in--this staff is obviously made up of die hard anime fans who love their work, but it's written with an eye to the beginning fan as well. The Battle Royale feature is what made me pick up the mag in the first place! Totally fun. Take this to your local coffeehouse, sit and read in the corner and snicker to yourself; that's my favorite way to read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars This mag's got it all!
This magazine's got something for everyone, whether you're new to anime or are a long-time fan. Besides simply reviewing and covering the latest anime news and shows, however, they cram a lot of hilarious and creative articles into the mix, making for eclectic but fun sections, like cool anime deaths and battle royals. They've got a good mix with the regular features too, like showing new anime merchandise for me to buy, or cosplay photos and lessons on Japanese culture and interviews! My favorite part is their off-the-wall humor, and reading their captions and funny word balloons alone is worth my money (check out the other mags' prices!). These guys not only know their stuff, but love it, too-and they make me and all my friends rediscover our love for anime with every fun new issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love My Anime Insider
It's a great magazine for any type of anime fan. Whether you are just getting into it, or have already reached obsession levels. It give you plenty of information on not only Anime that is being released here in the US, but what's hot in Japan too. If your looking for a new series to get into, then this magazine is a great one to pick up, it can probably suggest several an issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way cool!
This magazine is amazingly funny, and I never can wait for the next issue to come out. It has a lot of pictures, and many descriptions too. It has a section that has a picture of what a show would look like if it were manga! It also has manga samples in the magazine. I love this magazine, and I think you should buy it. I mean, look at the price! Oh, but be warned. This magazine has some curse words so I don't suggest it for kids under 10. The words do add to a lot of the humor, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tee Hees out the Wazu!
I have to get my anime fix, and this is how I get it. I spend ten bucks a month on NT for serious anime reviews, and this for the sheer hilarity. Their little bubble captions, and how they cleverly weave humor into their magazine, and it is done with a bang. I was also very impresssed at how much they told me about what was coming out when. They gave a complete list of EVERY manga, DVD, and game coming out in the following consecutive months, and had nice reviews (I bought Technolyze by strong recommendations from both NT and AI), written in. Very funny, and kept me laughing for a long time. Even my 12-year-old sister read it and liked it! Highly recommended by the biggest tight wad in anime. And that's really saying something. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars lost shippments
Hi,
this is not review, it's more question for Customer Support Service. I send you check for subscription for next year in April. My check #077 was dated April,23,2003 and it was cashed in May 2003, but I never got new numbers. If you had time to cash my check I would think that is not unrealistic to expect to get in mail my subscribed numers of Magic Chrochet which would be for months of August and October, I think that I got June's number (because my subscribtion was expiring in June). I hope this is going to be solved very soon. I hope it's just a mistake of someone in shipping and that very soon I will enjoy my paid new numbers. I really enjoy doing staff from Magazine, it is easy to follow paterns and over a couple years that I am subscribed to magazine I have made quite a few very nice pieces, as well as ones that I gave away as a gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Old issue
Hi,I am looking for Dec 89 #63 of the magic crochet magazine. If anyone has one and would like to sell it. Please email me at uds48@ comcast.net.
The problem I had w/ the magazine was that i would get double issues. So I stoped ordering them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Consider Myself Warned
I ran across some old issues of this magazine and was quite impressed. Thought I would subscribe if it was still available. After reading so many laments about the subscription service, have decided I don't need the headache. Too bad, a really nice magazine and no local availability. Just wondering......IS ANYBODY LISTENING?????

1-0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the Warnings!
From the reviews I've read here, it seems that the publishers really screw up with subscriptions. Thanks for the warnings - if I want a copy, I'll purchase it at a crafts store instead of subscribing. Thanks to all who arote about problems with subscriptions, you helped make up my mind about ordering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Magazine, Hate the Subscription Service
I have been subscribing to Magic Crochet for many years. I have the 1st issue up to #132 and a few more out of sequence after 132. The subscription service is horrible. They bill for magazines already paid for. You can send copies of your check, it's never aknowledged. They just keep sending more bills. Before you get a magazine or two, they are billing you again. I sent a check Nov 2003 and have yet to get the mag. It's now Mar 2004. How do we get their attention? They have no website or email address that I can find. Any requests to them are on deaf ears. What's wrong with these people? With such a great mag, why won't they provide better service and accounting? Guess I will have to resort to purchasing used mags. I've lived here for 20 years so it can't be that. HELP US CONTACT THEM.
Thanks,

5-0 out of 5 stars The only magazine that I keep back copies of!
As a professional graphic designer and illustrator, I read a lot of the trade magazines, but Communication Arts is the only one I keep back copies of. I have had a subscription to this magazine since my art school days and I still look forward to receiving it in the mail. The magazine is beautifully designed with clean type and the feature articles are always interesting. It is well worth the cost of subscription. Just get it! You won't be sorry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Important to know what you want
If you are looking for a design mag with flip-through layouts or edgy underground images, this is probably not the publication for you. If you're on the search for pretty pictures and design inspiration, you'd probably like one or two of the annuals (i.e., Design, Illustration, Photography or Interactive), but not a whole subscription.

Now then, if you don't mind reading and are looking for contemporary and practical insights into the world of commercial print design, CA comes highly recommended. Its value very nearly overshadows its cost, and if you can't afford it, it's well worth harassing family members for a gift subscription.

5-0 out of 5 stars The essential tool for working commercial artists
As a working illustrator and designer, I have been a subscriber to CA since 1983, and own copies that date back to my art school days in the late 70's. I consider this magazine an invaluable tool for maintaining an edge in the ever-changing commercial art market. Not only does CA provide in depth interviews with the top design agencies, illustrators, designers and photographers working today, but it helps me keep up to date with current trends in design.

The five regular issues are great, but the three annuals that present a comprehensive gallery of the very best in photography, illustration, design and media for each year have provided me with untold inspiration, practical ideas for problem solving, and have helped me to strive for greater creativity. As a reference tool for style and trends, CA is always featuring the absolute best the market has to offer.

Printed on heavy, gloss stock of near archival quality, every issue is a treasure that more than justifies the price. While each new issues serves as a benchmark for what is happening in the commercial art world, the old issues become time capsules that never seem to loose their appeal. I still delight in reviewing articles and images from 20+ years ago.

CA is a good, but slightly pricey diversion for anybody casually interested in art, photography and advertising. It is a GREAT and invaluable tool for every working professional commercial artist, and worth every penny spent tenfold.

3-0 out of 5 stars Expensive Eye-Candy
Visually stunning mag, frequently used for inspiration by graphic designers. Fixated on "new" and "award-winning", at the expensive of "good" design or socially-relevant design. The articles on professional practice are sometimes shallow, sometimes obvious. The style guide for people who manufacture desire.

5-0 out of 5 stars CA Review
Fantastic collection of all areas of graphic design. A must for the reference library. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Updated Crochet
I currently own at least one issue of about 8 different crochet magazines and Crochet! is my favorite of all of them and the ONLY one that I subscribe to. The designs are always current and unlike some magazines are not re-publications of designs that were originally published elswhere. Ladies wearables, accessories, and afghans are the staple of this magazine though you will occassionally also find wearabes for other family members as well as a variety of other interesting patterns such as crochet for the kitchen and bathroom, crochet for spicing up the holdiays, etc. What's more is that they always try to include patterns from some of the "newer" (or newly revived) techniques such as thread painting, crochet'n weave etc. The instructions are quite thorough, often with diagrams and yes...you will find some patterns in here that will cater to the plus sizes. Another interesting feature of this magazine is that they spotlight on what's new in the crochet world so you always feel like you're on the cutting edge of what's current in crochet.

Unfortunately, there is no pic up for the visual types such as myself but you don't have to take my word for it. Just follow this link to visit the magazine's official site and for a sneak peek inside the latest issue:

5-0 out of 5 stars If your going to read one Beading Magazine this is it
Beading is enjoing a wave of popularity right now and there are more magazines than ever and frankly, I read them all. Beadwork stands above the others in many ways. The quality of the articles is fresh and informative, not the same tired junk recycled over and over. New news in the beading world is never over looked and the patterns are always detailed and sources for materials given. If I could only subscrible to one Beading Magazine Beadwork would definitely fill the bill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
Absolutely wonderful magazine. I count the days until every new issue. It offes beautiful patterns for a variety of needlework styles. In every issue it always has knitting section, a couse that introduces you to a new type of needlework (or refreshes you in one that you already tried), a monthly picture in cross stitch (a sampler type, this year it is "the trades").

During the year you can find patterns in most of the popular types of needle work (cross stitch, embroidery, sweedish weaving, chrochet, cutwork, whitework, etc).If you like to try all different kinds of needle work ,"Anna" is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Anna" Burda's all-purpose needlework magazine
Anna has an assortment patterns for knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, and other crafts, mostly needlework, every month, and the design quality is generally higher than that in American magazines, which currently place a ridiculous emphasis on "Easy," at the expense of design. There are usually some seasonal crafty-crafts included, using paper, paint, etc., for decorating and some purposes which are mysterious to this American reader. (Just what is a "school cone," anyway?) Overall, a very worthwhile magazine, with a lot of truly beautiful patterns. I knitted one tablecloth pattern for my daughter's wedding veil, and it got raves. Well worth the price! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best. Magazine. EVER!
No ads and relatively small, but packed chock-a-block with plenty of practical design solutions backed by REAL design theory -- worth every penny! If you're looking to refresh your designs, seek ideas, and learn from the best, look no further. This is an entire communication design course in a magazine. I've been getting it for years, and this is by far, THE BEST design magazine on the market today. Period. Glad to see it's back!

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay - if you're a beginner
I'm a fairly advanced beader, and was hoping for some new ideas when this magazine appeared. The projects are pretty, but if you have more than a year or so of beading experience, this one isn't for you. The magazine uses shortcuts rather than teaching the more standard techniques, and teaches newbies bad habits they'll have to unlearn. There's also very little about how to find quality beads, which seems to be the hardest thing to learn when beginning this hobby.

Like all of the beading magazines currently available, there is at least a page of advertising for each page of content. Normally, that's fine with me, but Step-by-Step takes it to a new level. It's misleading to accept ads from dealers who only work with members of the trade and put them in a beginner hobbyist's magazine. A full page ad with great prices is terrific, until the new beader discovers that the company only deals with wholesalers and has a minimum order of hundreds of dollars. It would be far more ethical for the publishers to limit wholesaler's ads to more high end publications.

To decide whether beading is for you, and to see what pretty and fashionable jewelry is available, this is a good magazine. However, understand it as a beginner's guide, and know that if you decide you want to advance in the craft of jewelrymaking, you'll need to unlearn some bad habits and buy much better tools and supplies than those recommended in this magazine. More advanced beaders and jewelrymakers will probably want to skip it - there's nothing new here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If Martha Stewart were French, she'd publish this magazine
If you read French or not, this is a wonderful magazine. The crafts include embroidery, collage, knitting, tapestry, cooking and more. The fashion and style areas give novel ideas for using junk like funky-labeled tin cans for a beach house door curtain, making mirror frames from bottle caps. Think sort of, Martha Stewart with a French twist. The trimestrial issues have a holiday or seasonal theme, Christmas, Spring, Summer, Autumn.

Every issue has an abecedaire (sampler) in a clever type of embroidery. Usually there is a knitted pattern, most often for babies but not always. There is usually a travelogue to an exotic place, with great photos. And you can get a long long advance look at US style trends--for example, Marie Claire Idees featured toile and transfer printed china years before it got to be a hot trend in the US. I save every issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas and Photos
I love this magazine! I was in Paris and found it in the airport and couldn't put it down on the plane. It's full of pictures and ideas and instructions in the back, not lots of wordy fluff or advertisements, but just packed with beautiful, inspiring ideas. I subscribe to Martha Stewart Living and I'd have to say this beats it, however, it is in French and it's pricier to order. It was cheaper in France but I was very happy to find that Amazon offered it since I didn't think I'd see another issue again without going overseas, I think the price is worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A French Idea!
I love this magazine. The presentation is so lovely and refreshing. I took French in school, but not enough to follow the instructions given for the projects. So, It's purely "follow the pictorial directions." I wish there were some way that this beautiful magazine could be captioned in some way. As part of it's charm is in the french language.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas

5-0 out of 5 stars Airbrush Action - A must for airbrushers around the world
Aibrush Action is dedicated to the art form for all levels of skill. All users of airbrushes will find good info in every magazine. I have been airbrushing for 5 years and I have subscribed to the magazine for three. I like the publication because it has product reviews, "hands-on how to" articles, excelant trade member submisions, heads-up on new trends and finally the ppl that write the magazine are PRACTICING airbrushers.

The zine has evolved over the years and is just as hard core airbrushing as it was "way back when" as it is now. The presentation of the articles just gets a bit slicker each year. The product reveiws are honest. If somebody sends them a pice of junk then they right a nice "nasty gram" about it even if that junk is advertised in that very months issue! The editers have grit! And, if they strike gold the share the wealth, too. They are not stingy with good info.

Once a year the zine has a projecter, airbrush, aircompressor, paint product cross reference info chart. I.e. if your into this then you might want to check this configuration out. It'very handy to have. I have switched from one brand of acrylic paints to another with much appreciated results. (Both brands were good, just one had a better aplication towards what I wanted to accomplish at the time)

Any way- the skinny on this subject is: before you buy a set up if you are a novice, then buy this zine first before you spend alot of cash. If you make a living in the A.B. world then you need this publication so you can make more cash. This zine represents ppl from all areas of airbrushing, from fine art illustraters to ultra cool death metal bikes. Heck, some ppl get it just for the cool art in it. ... Read more

Somerset Studio is a beautiful magazine displaying creative art pieces in varying medium. I love seeing the different artists approach on the assignments such as the 'Alice in Wonderland' theme!

5-0 out of 5 stars Visually inspiring!
If you are an artist, aspiring artist, or 'just' a scrapbook creator or journal writer, this magazine is sure to catch your imagination and spark an idea or three. Filled with the artwork and ideas from contributing artists, the pages of this magazine are visually rich with photographs and well-written descriptions of ART, not merely "projects to try at home". Unlike other magazines and books that deal with scrapbooking or stamping aimed at a first-grader, Somerset Studio will impress you with refined images and accomplished artists. Truly inspiring!
