2-0 out of 5 stars Without My Permission
I ordered a gift subscription for my son for Christmas two years ago. I used my credit card. I have now found that Field and Stream Magazine renewed that subscription on my card without my permission. Because I was using my card for other purchases, their unauthorized use placed my card over the limit resulting in an additional fee. I warn everyone to beware of their unethical practices if your giving them access to your credit card.

1-0 out of 5 stars Field & Stream Fraud
We ordered a gift subscription to Field & Stream and they (Field & Stream, not Amazon) fraudelently deducted $99.70 from our checking account instead of the $9.70 written on the check. Upon calling customer service (and being put on hold for 10 full minutes) I was told flatly that a refund check would be arriving in 3-4 weeks. No explanation, apology or reparation was offered. Good thing they don't process my mortgage payment. In addition, they confused the subscriber/giver addresses and never followed through with sending us the "handsome card you can you can send to announce your gift." I recommend avoiding Field & Stream, or at the very least, ordering your subscription through Amazon rather than from the company.

2-0 out of 5 stars Yuppified by the minute, yet stupider by the second
You would think that as the history of Field and Stream progresses and the editors and writers become high class city folk they would at least go to a college and learn to write intellegently. This magazine is full of nothing but opinions (not that i disagree with them, i just wished they sounded smart when voicing their thoughts). These writers have no background in wildlife management, yet give advice like they do. And if they do have a management background, I am glad i'm not getting my Wildlife Resource degree there. Field and Stream has became another tool of arguement. Readers yelling at writters and writters responding with cussing (no joke). The only joke here is field and Stream. Teaches nothing. Says nothing. Costs a lot. ... Read more

This is a great magazine. It contrates on the crusing community. If you
like to dream about "going cursing" this is the mag for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Subscription problems
I had the chance to read some issue when I was in California and I found it quite interesting.
When I moved back to my country I experienced hard times on subscribing to it. The customer service is poor. The web system for international subscription wasn't working properly so I wasn't able to proceed.
After several contacts via phone and email, I sent my credit card number via fax at the number they provided. The magazine never arrived.
I quit and I'm reading an other magazine. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak Writing Detracts From the Material
Sadly, I can't recommend this magazine for most readers. I have a current subscription given as a gift, but I will not be renewing. I can't recommend this magazine because the writing often feels amateur. Articles are rarely compelling, and often feel that they were written by the readers. I have yet to come across an article (after 6 months) that feels like it was submitted by a professional writer. One positive that I will say is that when the subscription was made, the buyer was double billed, but Rodale took care of it quickly and easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rodale's RULES!!!
Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine has something for every diving enthusiast. I love the safety issues, gear reviews & dive company ratings. It is a very useful tool for planning a dive trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advocate for divers
I have been religiously reading RSD for a few years now and can't say enough how the magazine serves as a 'Consumer Reports' for divers. Their gear recommendations are top notch--I follow them religiously; but more importantly they stress good technique and training. Their "Lessons for Life" column, where they detail the anatomy of a diving accident, is very useful in keeping divers focused on the fact that although diving is a heck of a lot of fun, it also carries with it some substantial, but mostly preventable, risks. This awareness of those risks led me to work my way up to Rescue Diver certification and I am now pursuing Divemaster, all in the pursuit of becoming the best diver possible. If you dive at all, you need to be reading this magazine. ... However, like EVERY dive publication, I wonder if they can't keep from raving about any dive destination enough. It makes me wonder if the dive destination (especially the Cayman Islands!!!) isn't paying the reporters' way. Trust them for gear, technique, and lifesaving tips. Verify the vacations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine for All Divers
I really enjoy reading this magazine. I look forward to it every month. The gear testing articles are very helpful in chosing the right gear to meet all conditions. The articles on travel destinations are very well researched. The articles rate the diving and dive facilities so you know exactly what to expect before you arrive. The magazine helps increase my knowlege of diving, which increases my saftey in the water. We all need to continue our education after certification and this magazine is a great way to do it! Highly Recommeded!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
Rodale's is an excellent read jam packed with info on gear, destinations and current diving practices. I have found it to be a great research tool in continuing my scuba diving development. I would recomend it to any one interested in diving from the complete novice to a seasoned veterine looking to expand thier knowledge on new equipment or destinations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent outdoor magazine
I have been reading this magazine for a number of years. It is a classic hunting and fishing magazine with interesting articles that are filled with useful information.Patrick McManus's "Last Laugh" is alone easily worth the cover price. If you haven't read Pat, you need to.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars. One reason to subscribe "Patrick McManus"
If you've never heard of Pat, you are really missing out. He has a host of books which are a refinement of his past humor articles. (He used to write for "Field & Stream" and now writes for Outdoor Life.)If you can't wait for him to publish his stories in book form, subscribe to this magazine. Otherwise the rest of the magazine's stories while interesting get repetative. How many stories of "the buck walked through the woods like crackling thunder" can you take. I suppose if you are a hunter, and all the ones I know tell these tales, you'll never get tired of reading about others great hunting trips. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Really pretty sad...
This is a pretty sad magazine. It's like Seventeen for cyclists really. I can't believe i used to actually take it seriously. Fortunately i know better now, but sheesh. It's just stupid and worthless info that is only occasionally compensated for by good pictures of new bikes. If you want to see new bikes, go to your local bike shop and actually ride them. Don't buy a magazine. The advice is stupid to the point of almost being gossip. Try Cyclesport if you like to follow racing... i have no suggestions for just all around road biking, however.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still very good
I'm not sure how many (25?)years I've been reading this magazine but it continues to be the "bible" of cycling enthusiasts. It is slanted more towards the road rider as opposed to the mountain biker but they do publish a partner magazine entitled Mountain Bike. I've had many on and off again subscriptions only to return to reading or fantasizing about the latest toys and people's adventures on bikes. This is the time to gear up! You may see the cyclosaurus out and about in their colorful spandex outfits, bronzed bodies in all shapes and sizes, grazing on a protein energy bar or sipping a carb loaded drink as they motor through traffic propelled by their own energy. Or you might see the cyclosaurus counterpart off road in a more trendy, lined baggy shorts and t-shirt, sipping from a hydration pak on their backs as they kick up dust barreling down an exhilirating single track. In any event this is the time of year when weekend warriors become Lance Armstrong or Dotsie Cowden. The magazine for the cyclosaurus is Bicycling because of it's informative tidbits of information that tells you where the best organized rides are, the latest product developments, training and nuitrition tips and the exciting outdoor adventures that can only be experienced on bike. One of the mainstay features are bike recommendations that can run the gamut from a cool $3-$5k to the more sensible priced deals at around $1,500. Whether you want to know about the latest road shoes available, bibs, shorts, helmets, tandems, tape, tires, cages, bottles, sunglasses, tools, timers or trainers, it is all here for the cyclosaurus. Recommended for bike riders everywhere, as Willie Nelson once sang, it just might get you back "on the road again."

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What it Used to Be...
Years ago, I used to be a staunch reader of Bicycling (even when it had that ridiculous exclaimation point in the title). Unfortunately, I have to agree with most of the reviewers here, the content has declined dramatically. Mostly fluff, and reviews that don't have much merit.

Too bad, the cycling market has seen a solid rejuvination in the last few years and the market is primed for a good, USEFUL publication, unfortunately Bicycling isn't it.

2-0 out of 5 stars A long downhill ride...
Having regularly read "Bicycling" for many years (even when it was called "Bicycling!" in a tasteless 1970s way), I find it surprising to see how much the quality of the magazine has declined. In spite of all those people spending huge amounts of money on fancy equipment, "Bicycling" has become thinner and thinner. It has recently improved somewhat, after most of the editorial staff was fired, and a sign is the dropping of the truly horrible marginal comments (Bike Love and so forth) but it is only suitable for real neophytes. Unfortunately, there is no other single magazine that covers racing, bike touring, test reviews, technique and fitness in North America, no matter how poorly. The articles are very short and sometimes, well, just stupid. There is very little on cycling destinations or serious equipment tests. The photography remains decent, but compared to the German magazine "Tour," for example, "Bicycling" is a pretty sad effort. If you can read this, you have access to the Internet, which means you have far better sources of information to draw on. I am letting my subscription lapse and advise you to save your money. A big disappointment, "Bicycling" has not advanced with its readers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Used to be better...
For what it is, this magazine is OK -- a short digest of info for dilettantes. It has been "dumbed down" (please don't take that term too perjoratively) recently to attract a wider spectrum of readers, it would seem. It still has some useful info and is in my opinion worth the inexpensive subscription price.
But hard-core cyclists may want to try a different magazine.
I would prefer more (and more detailed) product reviews, maintenance tips, advice/tips. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In-Formation Galore
In-Fisherman is the most informative fishing magazine out on the market. It contains many indepth articles on a broad range of species. This magazine has helped me develop my fishing techniques and broaden my knowledge on many subjects. I definately recommend In-Fisherman for the experienced and beginner fishermen who wish to increase their knowledge on fishing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is there enough content?
Can't say I've read this magazine, but, I picked one up as a gift for a family member, and, was quite surpised as to how thin the magazine is. Is there enough articles in there? Do the articles have enough content? I admit that the typical "thicker" magazine has a lot of advertising, hence the thickness, but, I'm willing to bet, there is just as much advertising in the thin In-Fisherman magazine. I guess I won't worry too much...I'm not the one that will be trying to get something out of it, besides the purpose of a "gift" for Christmas. It was on the wish list, so I guess I must. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Powerlifting USA magazine review
I've been subscribing to PLUSA since 1984, the same year I started powerlifting. It contains a wealth of information for the beginner to the elite lifter. Interesting strength articles, interviews with the champions of the sport, results from meets, and the list of upcoming contests. It also contains all the different powerlifting vendors for your equipment needs. Its a must to have this magazine for anyone into or starting out with powerlifting. Its the ORIGINAL mag!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
Great articles for the seasoned and beginning powerlifter. Lots of useful, specific information on increasing lifts. inclusive listing of upcoming p.l meets across usa! i have nt let my subscription lapsein over 5 years and i refer to old issues for training ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great mag with one exception
This is a great magazine with the exception of articles written by Herb Glossberger, who seems to only write articles about the people at LA Lifting Club (where he works out). If you overlook that aspect, the mag is great. The knowledge that can be gained simply by reading the articles written by Louie Simmons and Dave Tate. Well worth it. It also cannot be purchased in your local magazine store.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does the job
Not too many magazines of this genre, so one is a captured audience for the most part. Does a great job in reporting scores and records. Has informational articles written in down-to-earth style, some very helpful to the average powerlifter, others a bit sketchy such as one that featured nutrition for the athlete. It stopped short just when you expected to get some really concrete information. Otherwise, an upbeat, albeit simple journal that is gratefully skimpy on flashy ads and promos. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For the serious golfer
Golf tips magazine is one of the most aptly titled magazines available today. It is chock full of heavily-illustrated exercises and other tips for serious golfers to improve their games.

There are a number of golf magazines on the newstand today. Most of them rely on a lifestyle format relying more heavily on lifestyle-type stories about today's hot golfers and the courses they play. Most of them include a brief game tip or two but seem aimed at the casual duffer.

Golf Tips, on the other hand, features almost nothing but heavily illustrated tips on improving one's swing, eliminating mistakes and putting better. It also is heavily loaded with features on the latest equipment technology. Each issue also seems to feature an article on the technical aspects of a selected major golf course. The articles are written with terminology that serious golfers will understand but that may confuse the weekend player. Judging by the amount of advertising in its early issues, this magazine also appears to be financially healthy.

If a reader wants to read about the PGA Tour's superstars, this magazine is not for him/her. But if s/he plans to be one of those superstars, Golf Tips is a good match.

5-0 out of 5 stars Four Skateboard Magazines
This is a (very brief) review of four different skateboard magazines. To make sure that previous experience was not biasing my opinion (too much), I got four issues that were out at the same time. The magazines are Transworld Skateboarding (TS), Thrasher Magazine (TM), Skateboarder (SM) and SBC Skateboard (SS).

For photography, TS probably takes the lead. For the skateboard lifestyle, the edge goes to TM. For those who like to read text, SM has the most. Surprisingly, the best is probably SS, which is a balanced combination of all three styles.

Before spending too much on any one magazine, I suggest you try the same so that you get THE magazine you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Skaters w/out any other life (like me!)
Transworld is worth the Money! It's the price of a regular magazine, but 3 times as thick! Sure there are a lot of adds in it, but hey, they're all just pictures of skaters doing tricks! Also, there are cool articles, interviews, and coverage of tours. Any skater with {money} should buy this. SKATEBOARDNG IS NOT A SPORT!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Transworld Skateboarding
The amount of skateboarding fans are increasing rapidly in the United States. If you are one of those fans, like myself, I highly suggest this magazine. It is well worth the cost. It covers everything such as pro spotlights, action shots, ads, trick tips and more. I have been reading this magazing for quite a while now, and plan on continuing my love for skateboarding. Subscribe now, you WILL be satisfied!

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty nice
I bought this mag at a grocery store. I'm fascinated with skateboarding. It's a really thick magazine. Probably because nearly everything in it are ads. That's annoying. Good pictures, though. Anyway, it's pretty nice. I'd recommend looking around at other magazines like "Thrasher", "Skateboarding", etc. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars All a skater needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars great magazine
A great magazine for any one interested in the shooting sports. It has articles for the experienced and novice alike. Basically a great all around magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars good contenet
This is a great magazine. The editors work hard to keep up with the latest developments. The editors also keep reaching out to the novice as well. So the experienced and novice will find this magazine helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but there's only so much you can say
When I was a regular shooter I found G&A interesting, but after a few years you notice there's only so much news out there. Maybe a few articles after the annual shows, and once every few years something new like the .17 rimfire comes along.

But after a few years you notice the same articles start showing up with depressing regularity. How many times can you read "30-06 or .308- which is better?" or "Is the .30-30 obsolete?" or (and this is the worst) "Stopping Power: What are the facts?"

I ended up dropping all my shooting magazines except American Rifleman. That seems to be enough.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk Phonecalls Forever ...
... after my subscription expired. They looked up my phone number and sold it to every phone marketer there is. The magazine is OK, but look out if you ever drop it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Info
This magazine is probably one of the best out there for up to date information on ammo and some of the new pistols and remakes coming out there. There are literally 1000's of types of guns and ammo. And this mag breaks it down into a pretty good and understandable format even for the novice. If your just getting into the scene or a veteran you both will find that this magazine is good for the latest news and information on whats hot and whats not when it comes to ammo and guns. On a bad note however I've notice alot less reviews on handguns and more on high caliber rifles. Anyway its still a good mag. ... Read more

Long known as the "bible of baseball," The Sporting News remains a weekly treasure trove of information for the voracious sports fan. In-depth articles are balanced with easily digestible sidebars and columns, and team-by-team capsules (contributed by local writers) include wrap-ups of the week's action and plenty of stats for fantasy addicts. MLB, NBA, and NFL team capsules are maintained through the off-season. The emphasis, of course, is on the big three--baseball, basketball, and football--but hockey and NASCAR receive their due as well. Special preseason issues are published for many sports. --David Horiuchi ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Magazine Good, Cust Service poor
The magazine itself is quite good. Unlike SI, Sporting News does not cater to perosnalities and have horrible bias. SI is really bad that way. But SN has problems with Cust Service. I had 3-4 issue difference in what I had and what I should have had, but it never got corrected. So I did not review

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice mag
The Sporting News focuses on MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, and men's collegiate football and basketball, with the occasional odd article or bit on golf. Even the major general articles (Best SportsTown, for instance) focuses on these sports.

In addition, the mag offers a good dose of stats and breaks down each sport by team, so you can read up on your fav or dig out the fantasy info you need.

Also, TSN highlights most major sporting events during the year, such as the NCAA hoop tourney, Super Bowl, Spring Training, etc., and includes additional material during their regular issues.

This is the best all-purpose sports weekly in my opinion.

3-0 out of 5 stars Former Subscriber....Here's Why
I will not argue with anyone that "Sporting News" probably provides more statistics on more sports than any other multi-sport magazine. It is about SPORTS and not much else, which is how it should be. It doesn't stray into politics or swimsuits like "Sports Illustrated." Nor is it too full of itself as is "ESPN-The Magazine." It provides straightforward articles about a number of sports, with a few opinion pieces thrown into the fray. Ken Rosenthal gets baseball better than anybody out there, including Bob Costas. The rest of the columnists are good as well.

My main gripe with "Sporting News" is that they don't listen to their customers. I tried repeatedly to have my address corrected on my subscription but I could never seem to make the boys at 'News understand what was wrong. To me, an incorrect address is easily fixed. Unfortunately, "Sporting News" doesn't spend enough time listening to their customers. I ended up ending my subscription and, guess what, never received my refund that I was promised. I used to subscribe to "Sports Illustrated" also. I never had any problems with their customer service.

Another problem that I have is the way they handled the whole NCAA BCS. They praised USC as the DEFINITIVE national champion and blew off LSU as posers. However, if you purchased a copy of "Sporting News" in Louisiana or Oklahoma(surprise, surprise), there was a cover acknowledging LSU as the #1 team in the nation. But ONLY on the cover. What's up with that!

In closing, I recommend "Sports Illustrated" over "Sporting News" for the simple fact that they cater to their customers better. Article wise, "Sporting News" is miles above the competition.

1-0 out of 5 stars interesting but completely wrong
The only reason I subscribe is i found a free subscription somewhere. The magazine had some interesting articles but Most of the time they are just completely wrong. One example was a preview to last years NFL draft. They talked up Terrell Suggs in a long article to the point he was definetely going at the latest third even with the quaterback needy Bengals and the lions who really wanted rogers were finding it hard to take a pass at him. Where does he end up? Going to the Baltimore Ravens. Not even his homestate team the cardinals wanted him. Another example is the cover of the their college football preview. They picked Auburn to be their national champions. I don't follow college football enough to understand, but I know auburn lost its first two games and doesn't look much like a team vying for a national championship. I'm not saying that Sports Illustrated is perfect and their picks are always accurate, but they seem to me to get a better grasp on sports. Yes Sports Illustrated has ads, but looking through my last issue it doesn't seem that The Sporting News has any less. It takes a while till you get at least two consecutive non ad pages. It seems like they both have the same amount. And even if One had more ads than the others is it that hard to really turn the page? Are you that lazy? The articles are the important thing and not many people say that the ones in Sporting news are better. I'd like to hear what some people thought were so nonsports related in sports illustrated. I personally haven't seen anything non sports relat1ed. Yes they have reviews of the occasional sports themed book and movie but they are usually short just letting fans know whether its worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Sports Magazines Available
The Sporting News is one of my favorite sports magazines for several reasons. First and foremost, I like the fact that the Sporting News covers ONLY sports. It doesn't get sidetracked with lengthy articles about other subjects. It sticks exclusively to the subject of sports.

Another great thing about the Sporting News is that it contains very little advertising. Other sports publications, like Sports Illustrated, rely heavily on advertising to cover expenses. The Sporting News manages to remain virtually free of advertisements (there are only about 10 pages worth of ads in each issue), which means there are more pages devoted to sports coverage.

Major sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey, NASCAR, etc.) receive coverage in every single issue. Even during the off- season, you can still read about your favorite sport. And during the time when a professional sport is in- season, the coverage is even greater, with team by team comparisons and statistics each week.

The Sporting News prints each issue the same length- 60 pages. They do this for all of the regular weekly issues. This is nice, because it makes the magazine more consistent. You know, every week, exactly what to expect in terms of length and in terms of the sports that will be covered.

There are a lot of statistical measures and tables in this magazine. This is fine with me, since I enjoy these lists of data. But I know that some readers will get annoyed with them after a while. They can sometimes get a little silly (for example, the magazine sometimes lists obscure stats like "highest batting averages against left- handed pitching during interleague play"), but most of them are helpful and fans will enjoy reading them.

This is a very good sports magazine. And with a price like the one offered in Amazon.com, it's very affordable: only 60 cents per copy for all this sports information. I recommend signing up now. If you like sports, you won't regret it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent advice and product testing
This magazine offers informative and helpful articles comparing equine products useful in all disciplines. I have found the recommendations to be spot on and constructive, the charts useful and easy to read. Anyone who shops for horse items will find this magazine useful. In addition, it offers concise articles with the latest information on health care including holistic alternatives (as well doing trials of holistic products).

I have used this as a guide for years and have never been disappointed with the results. Highly recommended to all horse owners!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it- saves money and time.
The horse world is full of so many expensive potions and lotions, you never really now what to buy. This is kind of a horseman's Consumer Reports. They have unbiased reviews of products tested by horse people (and horses). There are no advertisements in the magazine, so they endorse or favor no one. They'll test anything from horse equipment (blankets, saddlepads, neoprene boots), supplements, riding equipment and medications. They field test everything and give you details about how equipment held up under wear and horse abuse, if a hoof lotion really did what it claimed, if a joint supplement really made a horse perform better, etc. They will also tell you where you can get the products. They have invaluable tips on general horse care, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars somrthing for every horse owner
I think of it as a consumer reports for the horse owner. I even bought several issues that were printed before I subscribed to the magazine. I used their testing results to purchase many products and I've never been disapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars It has it all !!
I am a long time Nascar lover/watcher and I'm not really a redneck either. Born in New Mexico, but have lived all my adult life in Micigan. Here in Michigan, we have two race dates a year at our Michigan track and they are sold out at ever Nascar event. When the races are here in Michigan, as well as all Nascar tracks, Nascar Illustrated covers each event in such detail that you can imagine your actually there. The camera shots, the well written articles, take you to the track, let you talk to the drivers, crew chiefs, crew member and much more, of the the things you are interested most in. Sure the news is somewhat dated, but is more detailed and it gives you a chance to read, research and record all of the events that take place. After all, reading is at your speed, not some fast talking anouncers. But the best thing about NI, is the visits paid to racers and owners homes. The photography is breath taking, the interviews cutting and to the point. A beautiful way to learn about our heroes, its like you are right there, at home, on the plane or motorhome and then at the track, in the pits, in the R&D shop finding out about the race cars of today as well as those of tomorrows, even behind the wheel. The Magazine really is Nascar Illustrated, from front to back, it's one of the finest magazines I've ever seen/read,I now have my own subscription to Nascar Illustrated. Get yours now, you do not want to miss any of the news and views.

3-0 out of 5 stars WELTERWEIGHTS
Everybody and their Mama seem to jump on the Vernon Forrest Ban Wagon till ( Mr. Noboby ) Ricardo Mayorga woke him up, brought him down to earth, then put him to sleep. The first Mosley fight Forrest flat out won, the second well!!! it really could have gone either way. Forrest signs to fight Mayorga and starts reading the clippings thinking I am a bad ass, then POW he gets his lights put out. I think Mayorga will do it again only around the 10 or 11 round, Forrest will take a little beatin ouch!, like Forrest he came from no where only alot NO WHERE and did just what Forrest did win a belt, a WBC 147 lb Welterweight Championship Belt. Above all it was to add to his WBA Belt that he already owned before even signing to the fight....ok,ok enough anyway when is the Ring going to give him the "Ring Belt" and make him fighter of the year or are they going to make him prove himself over again. To think what Mosley couldn't do in 3 fights Mister Mayorga did in a 1/2 fight.

2-0 out of 5 stars Expensive and repetitive
First thing to note is that "The Ring" doesn't get you 12 issues anymore. Without much fanfare the "Bible of Boxing" went bi-monthly instead of monthly, adding "The Ring EXTRA" in the other months. Of course, it also *costs* extra; a lot extra even with Amazon's great prices. Yeah, the pages are glossy now, but that's a steep increase over the price from just a couple of years ago that included 12 issues. (They apparently refuse to try to sell ad space other than to a few boxing-specific companies.)

Further, the photographs and anecdotes repeat all the time (expect a Camacho or Duran joke, or both, every issue, and they've been using the same Tyson photos for over three years), and you can count on at least one if not two stories on old, historically irrelevant boxers. (A nod to boxing's graying fanbase no doubt, but that doesn't make 43-17 boxers from the 1940s any more exciting.) Still, credit "The Ring" for explaining its fighter rankings and *usually* remembering that even if it can't be timely because of its format it can be analytical.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible
With all the turmoil that surrounds the fight game, The Ring has remained a constant since the 20's.

The joke that is the alphabet soup is being put in it's place by The Ring's champions. All these IBF, WBA, WBC. NABF....titles do not mean squat in the minds of true boxing fans. The Ring has a list of champions who can be really called that. Holding a belt for any of these alphabet organizations isn't necessary to be recognized aa a champ in the eyes of The Ring. A colored layout coupled with new features has the ring swinging still after 80 years!

The bible doesn't lie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Always the best!
The Ring is by far the best boxing magazine out there. I have been reading it forever and it always informs and entertains. If you are a boxing fan there is no other magazine that comes close.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great magazine
I have got this mag for 2 years now and it helped me train my barrel racing mare, and now i am using the articles to help with my tb colt! Its great, full of easy to follow instructions and pics!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
Great magazine. I have been reading it for a few years now and have found it interesting and useful. The photos within are also excellent. My only quirk with the magazine has been a few problems I have had with receiving my subscription copy. Seems to arrive a bit erratically - on time sometimes and then it can be a month to two months late at other times (remember I am in Australia)!... However, the quality of the mag makes it worthwhile keeping up the subscription!...

4-0 out of 5 stars Running Times is the runner's best resource
I am writing because I believe the most recent review of Running Times paints an inaccurate picture of the magazine. From my perspective, Running Times is a much better resource than Runner's World for serious runners, serious athletes, AND the rest of us who are serious ABOUT our running.

My experiences with Runner's World make me think about the thousands of people who "run" road races all across the United States. I put run in quotes because there are plenty of people who run races to finish the race, very noble goal. Runner's World provides quick suggestions for making longer races interesting (i.e. take a camera on a secenic race course and take some pictures). Great idea to get people out for races, but not a good idea for someone who wants to improve their race time. Gallowalking will get you to the finishline, but if you have been training appropriately, it will not drop your race times.

My experiences with Running Times tend to make me think of those people who want to drop a minute from their 5k PR. Whether you are running 21 minute 5k's or running 16 minute 5k's, Running Times will provide runners who are interested in improving their running with the information they need to improve. Pete Pfitzinger in particular brings an incredible wealth of scientific and real-world training and racing knowledge to each issue of the magazine.

I highly recommend Running Times to anyone who is serious ABOUT their running.

2-0 out of 5 stars I prefer Runner's World
As I write this review, there are only two reviews of Running Times right now and I feel like I need to add my two cents. A big reason I subscribed to Running Times was based on these two positive reviews.

I subscribed to Runner's World before I had ever heard of Running Times. I wanted even more motivation to get out there and run distance, so I subscribed to both. Running Times concentrates too much on athlete runners and "destination spots" to run... like Hawaii or the Rocky Mountains, places that have beautiful pictures but are of no interest to me and my running. Furthermore, Running Times concentrates on individual races and results with more detail than I care for. I really don't need a one-page article on the Chicago marathon. I find the occasional article about eating better or training for a better 5k/10k/marathon in Running Times, but those articles are pretty sparse.

I grab an issue of Runner's World and it's the complete opposite. I get information about training, eating, injury prevention, stretching, etc. It has the same kind of race calendar as Running Times for the 5 and 10k's that I want to run. It's information that I can use as a runner. If you'd rather get information about how to improve YOUR running and not stories about running, stick with Runner's World.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great advise and prevention magazine
Running Times is one of two running magazines we subscribe to. It offers some valuable and well tested advise for the novice and well as the seasoned runner, on diet and injury prevention and care after the fact. I recommend it to anyone seriously interested in running.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the serious runner on any level
"Running Times" is for runners who compete either against others, or who simply have a great desire to run well.

Well written, and cleanly organized, you'll read about the training methods of top runners, and the top techniques for meeting a specfic goal.

Marathoners and 5Kers will find that there is a lot to be learned from each other's distance, and they'll have the chance here.

For stats junkies, the people who love to read who won the Juniper Days 5K in Upper Nowhere City... oh, the feast you will have! As a stats junkie myself, I thumb through the times quickly before devouring every detail.

I fully recommend this magazine.
