Amateur Tyer
I have been subscribing to this mag. for years. There is always at least one article that will teach you something you didn't know before. Photos are alway crisp and clear. Keeps you primed for Spring fishing during the cold winter.

The definitive US perodical
I've been a subscriber for 5 years and the magazine has been a great assistance to my growth as a fly tier.

The magazine has published a long series by John Betts on the history and methodology behind the sport. It has covered the "ultra realistic" school and (for me) every issue has at least 3-5 new flies or techniques (out of an average of 12-15 flies featured in each edition).

It is a quarterly and each of the four issues are much enjoyed by this reviewer. ... Read more

Great magazine for the climber in you
I've been a subscriber for years and have not been disappointed. Over years the magazine has improved in it's content as well as photographs. The magazine focuses on all aspects of climbing. Articles are informative and in some cases inspirational. You'll learn about climbing areas and climbers throughout the US as well as the world. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. The price tag seems a bit high for only 9 issues/year but you'll see that it's worth it.

On Belay....Climb Away!
For the serious climber with years of experience, or the newcomer looking to understand the basics, this magazine is the best source of technical information as well as exhilarating accounts of people climbing on the edge around the world.

This is a magazine you will want to keep for the pictures and the stories...and unlike most outside magazines...it doesn't bulk up on non-sport related advertizing...Way to go Climbing! ... Read more

Exellent.
Comprehensive tactical knife magazine. Very diverse. Has information ranging from mass produced and custom knives, from folders to fixed blades, and from different sections like "Collector's corner" to stories of how people used their knives in emergency situations, at the end of every issue. Full color pictures on high quality paper grace most of the magazine; the reviews of the knives often report how the knife preformed in the field. A very useful and impressive magazine.

Very close to a perfect all-around knife magazine!
The best thing about this magazine is that is has a very strong final-user point of view of the use of knives from cooking to artic survival, from packing store to anti-terrorist operations. Writers come from all backgrounds and the reviews not only include custom and production knives but some other products knife-related like books and videos on the topic. The downside is that some times you feel like you are reading very long shopping catalog, but by all the elements mentioned before this is compensated. ... Read more

Needs more TRAVEL
This is supposed to be Travel & Leisure golf - but from the issues that I have read so far I'd like to know where the travel reviews are. The places T&L have chosen are so overwritten about like hilton head or myrtle beach. I'm looking for destinations I haven't heard of like Bandon Dunes, courses in Ireland that no one has heard of like Old Head, or going to Australia or New Zealand. So far I am very dissapointed with T&L - the layout is also very cluttered and scattered and busy. They would be better off simplifying their format a little. ... Read more

my wind rag of choice for 10 years
Whether you're new to the sport or a ripping, jibing and jumping vet, this rag has everything you need to pick the latest gear, keep up to date on the competitive side of the sport, or pick a vacation destination. I find it most helpful to stay up to speed on the latest gear. Great commentary, really good photography, simply the best for my interest in the sport. Enjoy!!! ... Read more

Four Skateboard Magazines
This is a (very brief) review of four different skateboard magazines. To make sure that previous experience was not biasing my opinion (too much), I got four issues that were out at the same time. The magazines are Transworld Skateboarding (TS), Thrasher Magazine (TM), Skateboarder (SM) and SBC Skateboard (SS).

For photography, TS probably takes the lead. For the skateboard lifestyle, the edge goes to TM. For those who like to read text, SM has the most. Surprisingly, the best is probably SS, which is a balanced combination of all three styles.

Before spending too much on any one magazine, I suggest you try the same so that you get THE magazine you want.

Nothing beats Thrasher
Thrasher is the best skateboarding magazine in the world. Nothing can top it. You have all youre riding info about the pros, the am's, the gear, the tricks, the terrain and anything else youve ever want to know. There are stories, interviews, mail, tour info, great pix and some nice bio's. If you skate there is no other alternative to reading Thrasher.
