5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BASKETBALL MAGAZINE OUT!!!!
To any basketball fan reading this--you need to subscribe to this magazine or atleast buy it monthly, if not you are missing out on the best coverage of professional basketball. About 80% of this magazine is NBA, about 20% high school, college, and womens basketball. The writers in this magazine do a great job on giving you stories on and off the court of the athletes.

Sports Illustrated doesnt even come close to what this magazine has and The Inside Stuff is more on a pre-teen level.

Every issue of Slam has an article with an Old School Player which they interview, the cover story usually interviews the athlete, there are about 2 to 3 more full sized articles along with the "Punks" section which features high school b-ball players or schools. Plus much more.

Every once in a while they will release a special issue that isn't included in the subscription.... They have had a Streetball Issue, (another is on the way), they have released 3 KICKS ISSUES (all about shoes), They have also released the 50 GREATEST DUNKERS ISSUE, along with the 50 Greatest Players Issue.
Oh, the 10th anniversary issue just came out a couple of months ago and a couple of years ago they released the 50th issue in which they had 3 special covers of Jordan dunking from the freethrow line. (These are now framed and on my wall!!!)

Slam covers every aspect of the sport of basketball, if you are lookin for a good basketball magazine to subscribe to this is the one. The pictures in here are also the best, no one can compete with this mag!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best basketball magazine available!
For fans of NBA basketball, or college basketball for that matter, SLAM is the best magazine for you.

SLAM is a magazine that focuses on giving fans some background knowledge about the players on the court, and how they got there. Importantly, it does not solely focus on the mainstream guys. In fact, frequently there are articles about guys who never made it to the big stage, but were legends in their area for that brief moment. That is what makes SLAM different.
There are sections on high school and college basketball, foreign leagues, and past legends. The pieces on 'old school' players are often the best, telling the stories of the greats from yesteryear and showing that the game was invented long before Michael Jordan ever made a Nike commercial.

Clever basketball related jokes are woven in throughout the magazine, and make for humorous reading.
Add to all this the great action photos, and of course the tear-out posters of stars doing what they do best. Plus, a section devoted entirely to the latest shoes and clothing available to help you look good when you hit the streets.

SLAM is essential if you want to call yourself a real fan, and to keep up with the game it is well worth subscribing to.

2-0 out of 5 stars its a pretty good magazine
ok so there are to much advertisments but the pictures rock some of the best ive seen.and the articles rock as well.

GO JAZZ

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything hoops
I read a lot of the different sports magazines, especially anything about basketall, and this is basically the only one that really tells me what I want to know about the game and keeps me entertained at the same time. Slam has a lot of features on different players, and not just NBA, but college and even high school players. Slam is the first place that I read about LeBron James and most of the other high school players who came into the NBA. If you love basketball, you'd definite love Slam.

2-0 out of 5 stars This Magazine Tries to be Cool...
and fails. As an avid basketball fan who watches every game possible, checks nba.com and espn.com every morning, this magazine isn't worth your money. The magazine uses a lot of unnessacary slang and swear words, which looks and sounds unprofessional. It has a few good story ideas and sections, but the finished stories aren't very interesting or well written. As another rewiewer said, there is a lot of adevertising. I bought the August edition of this magazine to check it out before subscribing, and I'm glad I did because I do not reccoment anyone ot subscribe to this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Was there when it started.
The Western Horseman is THE horse magazine. It started in 1936. My mother wrote an article that was published in Volume 2, Number 4 in 1937. It was about the cowboys in New Mexico along the Pecos River. The ranch was the Turkey Track. I would like to have the issue, but over the years it disappeared. We, she and I raised horses for many years in Kansas and Oklahoma until a back injury slowed me down.
Over the years the magazine has kept up with the changing styles and breeds of western horses. More power to them!!
Keep me in mind if you have the issue I mentioned, and would like to sell it to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The classic horseman's magazine!!
I can't remember when I started reading Western Horseman. My mother had a subscription back in the fifties, even though we had Arabians and half-Arabians. As the title suggests, Western Horseman is a magazine for western horsemen. Back in the fifties you wouldn't see an English saddle in the magazine. However, I read it cover-to-cover then and I read it that way now. Even during the time I couldn't own a horse, I read Western Horseman. Nowdays, they occasionally include a horse with an English or, more likely, an Australian or Endurance saddle among all those western stock seat saddles. But that is fine. Western Horseman is what it claims to be, the premier magazine for western horsemen even if they don't live in the west or ride stock seat. The magazine is full of information about western stock horse disciplines. Their articles are basic and practical. Their writers are people I have never met but whose names are as familiar to me as my next-door-neighbor. They write about horse people. I have learned about rodeo clowns, bullriders, cowboy poets and western artists as well as horses. They write about the western way of life and those people who try to preserve it even as it changes around them. So, if you buy Western Horseman, and I hope you do, don't expect to read only about horses, although you will find plenty about horses. Expect to read about western horsemen in all their variations.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best horse magazine
Western Horseman is the premier horse magazine, with articles on all aspects of horses and horsemanship from trailers and trailering to horse packing, shoeing, disease and parasite control as well as special focus pieces on the different breeds of horse. If you like the outdoors and horses, you will love this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST All Around Horse Magazine Period
The BEST All Around Horse Magazine Period - Also The BEST current price. If a horse owner can only have one equine related magazine this is is the ONE I would recommend. I believe they have been in business since 1938 and know what they are talking about, in an entertaining non-technical manner. Excellent photos, with horse health, some show AND trail riding information. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very Compact
alot of solid details, stats&overall information past&Present that truly adds up. the Magazine is cool in that it's real compact&that is the one thing that I always dug about all the Digest's they are magazines you can read&eat with at the same time. i always enjoyed Q&A's with certain players.a really cool Read for the Football Fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great football magazine that "digests" quickly
After spending some time sorting through the plethora of sports periodicals in an effort to find one that gives good coverage of the NFL scene but didn't bore me with too many details and stats, I ended up favoring Football Digest® over the rest. I find about 80% of the articles, opinion pieces, and interviews within this mag at least modestly interesting, and highly readable. The regular features of FbD include the big interview of the month with a top pro star, a column that focuses on the college ball scene, and a former pro player's memories of "the game I'll never forget"

Football Digest is a fairly quick yet informative read for me; I can usually blow through an entire issue in about an hour and a half. 'Course, with it being digest sized and only 90 pages long-- 75 pages if you skip the stats section in the back-- it shouldn't take too long to go cover to cover, anyway. Fortunately, some of the articles are worth a second read-- which is a rare thing for me, as I'm usually pretty much done with a periodical as soon as I've read the pieces of interest once. The only initial turn-off I encountered with FbD was the cover price. If it weren't for the highly discounted subscription rate, I'd never plunk down six bucks a month for a small 90-page magazine that doesn't even have color photos (save for the cover); it just ain't worth it. So needless to say, if you're interested in giving Football Digest a quick try-out before ya buy, snap it up at your local newsstand. If ya like what'cha see, go for the subscription.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Subscribe
Do not subscribe to this magazine. I subscribed in December and the money was taken out of my bank account on 18 December. Since then I have received no magazines and my money has not been returned despite many e-mails. They seem to simply steal money and there does not seem to be anything that I can do about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The premier martial arts magazine that sets the standard
Not so many years ago when I was but a teenager, the martial arts provided a much-needed outlet to channel my energy into something constructive. When I wasn't going to class and learning first hand the physical aspects of the art (from the ages of 17-21), I was scouring the newsstands in an effort to find out all I could about all things martial. It is here that I ran across the best magazine in the business, Black Belt.

It is also here that I looked to and found inspiration from those who had already walked down the path that I now found myself traveling. The magazine was insightful, and did much to quench the thirst that grew within me. Like any great periodical, the pictures where great, and the stories well written. Best of all, they didn't dedicate every page in every issue to one popular style or proponent. Like any source worthy of the material it covers, they opted for variety. Not belonging to a "mainstream" art myself, I found it a nice change that I welcomed.

As you can probably expect, I made the choice to subscribe. For about five years, I was a loyal reader. While time no longer permits me to go to class (these things happen in adulthood), I still pick up a copy from time to time just to see what is going on in the martial arts community. What I see still brings a smile to my face, as the memories come pouring back to me. The martial arts helped shape who I am today, and Black Belt magazine was a valuable part of that journey. Maybe one day when things slow down a little and I have too much spare time on my hands, I'll resume my journey. When this happens, it will be safe to assume which martial arts magazine will be filling my mailbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars Variety of Martial Arts in one Magazine
I have been reading this magazine for 18 years (and I am only 28). This magazine is a must for people interested in martial arts, not necessarily in one particular art, but as martial arts as a whole. The articles are thought out and interesting. The letters to the editor and various monthly columns are insightful and interesting. As a martial artist you know that not one martial art is more effective than the next, this magazine proves that, wherein it diversifies and points out the strengths and weaknesses of some of the arts. This is a great magazine and has only gotten better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Cruise Information
"Porthole" is a magazine about cruising, and is generally informative and interesting. The format has recently been enlarged by the publisher, which is a big improvement.

The magazine is a glossy, color spectacle that deals mostly with reviews of ships and itineraries, with some superficial human interest articles thrown in for good measure. In general "Porthole" is more about visceral impressions of ships and cruises rather than about hard, factual information, which is largely to its detriment. For that reason, I prefer "Cruise Travel" magazine, which has a more thorough analysis of current topics, particularly in their itinerary reviews and "Ship of the Month" sections.

Interestingly, I recently got both "Porthole" and "Cruise Travel" on the same day and both of them had as the cover story Holland America's new "Oosterdam". While "Porthole" showed some nice photos largely of common areas and talked about how spacious it was, "Cruise Travel" detailed the new ship's layout, size of different class cabins, itinerary review, facilities and features, fares, etc. To me the information in "Cruise Travel" was unquestionably superior, although the "Porthole" photographs were nicer.

I enjoy reading "Porthole", and particularly enjoy the coverage of more obscure expeditions, such as the recent (June 2004) article on European river cruises. The coverage of the 'Queen Mary 2' was also excellent, particularly the excellent photographs. Overall, I think Porthole is a good magazine, but not the best in the category. For that try "Cruise Travel".

Little more is needed to be said than that.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate trapping, fishing, hunting, shooting magazine
Most people think that this magazine limits itself to the wild fur trapping industry but they are wrong. Although a good portion of the stories and departments focus on trapping, the excellent fishing, hunting and shooting articles should NOT be overlooked. I find this magazine to be much more appropriate for the average American and Canadian outdoors person. Several do-it-yourself features and inexpensive alternatives give this magazine a realistic touch. Most other magazines seem to cater to whoever advertises on their pages but FFG seems to care about the readers success. If I had to choose only one outdoor sporting magazine this would be it! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Magaizine Worth its Ballast.
I get three "boating" magazines: Sailing, Sail and Soundings (a general boating magazine - highly recommended). Each one has a special place on my coffee table.

The strength of this magazine is, first and foremost, the sections titled: 'Perry on Design' and the 'Used Boat Notebook' (and its accompanying side bar - 'Value Guide'). 'Perry on Design' covers briefly the designs of the new offering hitting the market. 'Used Boat Notebook' is the "Car & Driver" review for used boats: much more thorough than 'Perry'. This outstanding section covers: Impressions, Construction, What to Look for, On Deck, Down Below, Engine, Under Way and a succinct conclusion that raps it up This section alone is the main reason I get this magazine. Other reasons are the magazine's beautiful color photos and a section called 'Boat Doctor', information on technique and safety.

If you are a sailor, serious or a wannabe, you can't go wrong with "Sailing". Strongly recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sailing World

5-0 out of 5 stars Top quality sailing magazine!
Sailing World is a beautiful, well-written magazine! It comes with gorgeous pictures and coverage of international, college and local races and regattas, as well as contains many technique articles complete with pictures and diagrams to reinforce or introduce solid techniques to a beginning or even experienced sailor. When I can't get out to sail, I turn to Sailing World to bring the world of sailing to me! It always has excellent coverage of America's Cup as well as other local regattas in California, where I live. It is timely and the information is always very current and holds the latest news in tech issues, new products on the market and current standings. Excellent coverage and exclusive articles that I haven't seen anywhere else. This publication helps you concentrate on being the best sailor that you can, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro. I recently took up sailing a few years ago and this has been like my sailing bible!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO SAILING!...
If you only have time or space for one sailing magazine, this would be it! From the professional to the enthusiastic beginner, Sailing World is a must for the sailing afficianado. Where else can you find a balanced, well-written magazine that not only covers collegiate sailing, new products, America's Cup, international sailing, new boats, expert techniques, and intelligent editorials. I have found that other sailing publications try to be "too much" and they lose their focus in either large and countless advertisements to pay for their large format, or juxtapose a beginner's article against a highly technical article for experts, leaving the reader confused. This is the only sailing magazine I subscribe to and will continue to. You must have this magazine! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accuracy and Thoroughness of Hand Guns
Out of all the hand gun reviews, editorials, and infrmatiun about hand guns, I found this magazine the most thorough and accurate in description, and in photo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine For the Firearms Enthusiast
I received this magazine sunscription as a gift much to my delight. Being raised to both enjoy and respect firearms, I have had the opportunity to read many gun publications. On the top of my list is American Handgunner. A beautiful and informative magazine, American Handgunner is a wonderful periodical for anyone who supports our right to keep and bear arms. I give this magazine 5 out of 5 stars, and highly recommend to anyone with a moderate or avid interest in firearms.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read!
