5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Photography
The Golfer Magazine is one of the most beautiful publications out there I believe. Their photo essays are outstanding, dramatic and breathtaking. The last several issues have featured dramatic vista of holes from New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii to name a few. I think they have them online as well at www.thegolfermag.com Although they do not write on how to fix your slice like Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and the other magazines which in my opinion are becoming a little boring, The Golfer writes about how to live the game of golf to the fullest. They write about the new exciting exotic, luxurious destinations. They not only tell you where to go, but where to dine and stay while you're there and inform you of other exciting things to do like jet boating, fly-fishing or different wineries to visit. I highly recommend The Golfer Magazine to anyone out there who is tired of the regular advice on how to cure your slice 100 different ways.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Travel
The Golfer is a great publication. I just planned our last trip to Hawaii thanks to their recent article on Hawaii golf. Hawaii was great and I recommend everyone TO GO and to subscribe to The Golfer if they enjoy exotic golfing destinations. They wrote in detail on several great courses and gave us suggestions for dining and wine and all the new gadgets for 2004!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Luxurious
The first thing I noticed about this unique golf magazine is how beautiful it is. The Golfer has the most stunning photographs of spectacular golf destinations throughout the world I have ever seen. I haven't seen any other magazine out there that even comes close to The Golfer's insight on the lifestyle of the game of golf. The Golfer has become my golf guide to travel throughout the world. I just finished reading an article on Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand and have planned our next getaway there in December. They have great articles on travel, style, dining, equipment, resorts, and where to look for real estate. They go a step further than all the other golf magazines by focusing on where to play and where to stay; where to eat while you're there and where to go shopping while you're in the area. Every resort they review is top notch and they haven't missed yet. I highly recommend The Golfer magazine to anyone out there who loves the game of golf and the lifestyle it exudes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This is one of the best Golf Magazines out there pertaining to golf travel - it writes about exotic locations all over the globe. Their last issue dealt with dramatic ocean side courses in Hawaii and the issue before had the "Pebble Beach" of New Zealand featured, Kauri Cliffs, which looked so great my Wife and I went down there last month to enjoy a little R&R and it was tremendous. They have a very colorful website as well with a great photo essay of Hawaii golf: www.thegolfermag.com

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL the Tour News, College Golf & Club Level News - Weekly!
Why should you get this magazine? If you are lacking in news regarding ALL of the tours (literally): PGA, LPGA, Senior, European, Asian tours, Buy.com and the mini circuits - they cover every tour event every week.

If you want rankings of every player worldwide, the money list and the weekly top finishers of every professional golf event from the televised tour events to the Greater Podunk Open with a top prize of $1,500 dollars, it's listed here. This is the only place that covers the college golf season in great detail.

While it's technically not a trade magazine, they cover new equipment announcements in a trade magazine manner - cost, distribution and advertising plans.

If you combined "Fortune" with "The Sporting News" - that's basically GolfWeek. They basically approach it as "the business of golf."

Which might sound like faint praise but it is actually a high compliment - they approach everything with a objective distance even when they are doing feature stories on golfers. They are sometimes harsh but always honest & fair. While some golf writers dance around an issue of a Sunday collapse, they are honest and forthright enough to address the issue without getting personal or vindictive. This is not the magazine on trying to knock 2 strokes off your game, that's what the other magazines are for.

Just like "Fortune" for golf, it's on the business of golf: the people, the tours, the equipment and what's going on. It is a lot of info, news, analyses and statistics. It's not for everyone but if you or the intended reader is someone who tries to figure out on Thursday which channel has opening round coverage or watches the Golf Channel regularly, this is one of the best magazines in America right now, not just on golf (and I read about 85 magazines a month). Get it. It's great. (you can also check out their website to get an idea of the excellent writing but amazon.com is a much more inexpensive subscription). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice to be told now!
Great magazine, but it would have been nice to be told when I originally subscribed (from a voucher in the magazine) that subscriptions were not available to Australia. Took my money and only received on issue on time and another one or two many months later. Thanks heaps :(

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun football
Excellent magazine with in-depth interviews and news coverage not easily-available here in the U.S. At times it pokes fun at the games stars, management, officials, and even its fans, yet it also is not afraid to tackle important issues in the game. Also includes fun contests in every issue.

Aside from the fact that the photographers go out of their way to insure that athletic company logos appear as often as possible in the magazine's many photo spreads, Four Four Two is an excellent read. ... Read more

Gray's Sporting Journal is one of the hidden gems of sporting and wildlife magazines. Consider the publication values: photographic essays (on drift boating, for example, or trap shooting in Europe) are part of every issue and are always very well done; the pages are glossy, thick and substantial; there's art (usually a painting) in the back of each issue; you'll often find a poem tucked away in its 150-plus pages; and there are fewer advertisements here than you'll see in a Field & Stream. But what makes it most difficult to send an issue to the recycling bin is the writing, which is of a depth, breadth, and quality that you will be hard-pressed to find in any other outdoor magazine. The source of this writing helps to account for its value--specifically, it comes from all corners, including university professors who find meaning in the outdoors and their interaction with it, and people who were obviously hunting and fishing long before many people were born. But no matter whether the story you're reading seems to emanate from a campfire or a classroom, the writing itself is almost always engaging. Some will find that the combination of high art and the advertisements for exclusive game ranches makes the publication feel too much like you're sipping cognac in a leather chair in your library. The writing, however, is never so stuffy, and stays firmly rooted to the outdoors that inspire it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting reading for hunters & Fishermen
This magazine is a pleasant change from "Field & Stream" and "Outdoor life" The articles are well written and harken back to a day and age when one had time to sit by the fire and read a good story. 5 stars for writing quality. It's expensive per issue but you'll get your money's worth out of the reading time. Ad's but far fewer than those other pulp journals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitive source of US rugby info
Definately the best source for US rugby info. Great coverage of everything from high school up. Great comprehensive match coverage and indepth articles about people and place important to rugby. The player & official profiles are funny and informative.
Geographically diverse reporting is a real plus. Tabloid sized and printed on newspaper (think Parade magazine for ruggers).

4-0 out of 5 stars IFS a good magazine for Figure skating fans
This magazine is truly International. It has sections on the various countries that participate in figure skating. Of course, there is a large section on North American Skaters. Besides results of competitions and article about one or two skaters an issue, it has little news items and pictures of skaters at competitions hanging out together. I like it very much, but I prefer BLADES ON ICE because it has longer articles.

5-0 out of 5 stars The premier cycling rag.
I used to be a magazine junkie, reading literally 20 magazines monthly. However, with our first born, I now have to be extremely discerning with my spare time for reading. To wit, all of my cycling magazine subscriptions have now lapsed, but I have hardly noticed it. However, I have kept my subscription to Velonews going.

I admit that you can get up-to-date news from cyclingnews.com, but there just something to be said about kicking back into a chair with a good book, or magazine in this case. They cover all types of cycling that I enjoy, road, mountain bike, and cross. They do not cover the free-riding scene, which is fine by me. In addition, they do a good job in covering both the men's and the women's scene, and also covering the local US scene.

In addition to its detailed race reports, I enjoy Velonews' regular columns, ranging from the long time cartoonist Patrick O'Grady's scathingly funny cartoons, to the down to earth writing style of pros like Todd Wells and Tyler Hamilton.

The only thing I don't like about Velonews is its larger format. I wished every issue were printed like its gear guide issue size. Kudos to them though, for getting rid of the silly staples that seem to release all the pages after a few days of reading. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Complete, but it has been better
Sports Weekly is the most detailed look at football and baseball that you will find. It doesn't get any better if you're looking for objective facts, statistics and weekly coverage of your favorite MLB/NFL team. As a baseball fan I subscribed to the magazine (then Baseball Weekly) in 1995 and I have renewed my subscription every year. When the magazine became Sports Weekly around 2 years ago, I knew the baseball coverage would suffer greatly with the addition of football. Sure enough, I was right. Now football dominates just about every cover and close to two thirds of the magazine, even in football's off-season. If you are an NFL fan, this magazine puts to shame just about every publication out there of its kind. For baseballl fans, you will not find better coverage anywhere else for the time being. But be forwarned, we don't know when they will sell out again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I follow the entire mlb from Saint Louis
I've been getting this particular magazine for nearly two years now and I love it. As a life-long Cubs fan (and yes, this IS our year) who recently moved to Saint Louis, it would be very difficult to keep up on the Cubs if it wasn't for this magazine. It was especially helpful when I went a few months without Internet connection, but I digress. Not only do I get to see what the Cubs are up to, but the magazine gives you the scoop on every team (organized by division) every week. In addition, they cover the major stories in baseball or study an issue more thoroughly than a local paper might. Although I read it for the baseball, the football section of the paper is similarly organized and seems like excellent reading. I highly recommend Sports Weekly. ... Read more
