Over the many years that I have subscribed to Golf Digest, I've come across extremely useful information from world class teachers and the top players that has improved my game. In addition to appreciating the superb teaching article, I always look forward to the new product editions. Equally informative and entertaining are the various feature article and interviews. Golf Digest is simply the best golf magazine!

All around
Golf Digest is the quintessential all around golf magazine. They write about lessons, travel, equipment and golf news. They seem to be a little biased recently with the acquisition of many of today's top golf stars, by not writing anything negative about them or their sponsors, i.e. Tiger and Nike. They are usually right on with their reviews of places to play and I enjoy how they pick one location and focus on it. I.e. Cape Cod, the courses that you can play and other activities that are around the vicinity. I wish they would choose some more exotic locales such as South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and South America though.

A no-brainer
You can't go wrong with Golf Digest. It is the premier monthly golf publication, the only one with regular articles by Tiger Woods, David Leadbetter and a host of other top names in golf. Each month is jammed with content, travel tips, special deals for readers, game improvement articles -- everything for which you buy a golf magazine.

There are other good magazines out there, but you (or the golfer you're buying it for) certainly should have a subscription to Digest.

Golf Digest
This magazine is simlpy the best, most authoritative magazine on golf on the planet. Everything you want to know about golf is right here. Head and shoulders above the rest. I reccommend it highly.

Wow! When I read this it was cool. I learned new stuff about golf that I didn't know before. My dad is a big golfer so I read one of his magazine's. If you are into golf I suggest you read this. It is great to learn stuff about golf and about golfers. If you don't like golf I suggest you page through one magazine maybe you'll get interested, too! ... Read more

The best of a big field
I've spent the last couple of months plowing through every golf magazine I could get my hands on, including Golf, Golf Illustrated, Golf Tips, and Stroke Savers to name a few. Golf Magazine, which has been around since 1959 and comes out monthly, is by far the best in terms of quality, content and presentation. While they all feature tips and lessons, Golf's photos are the most helpful to me, for instance showing stance, grip and frame-by-frame swing photos in separate boxes. I also find their paper quality and photos to be better, and their non-instructional articles to be more interesting. Add to that the fact that the magazine is published monthly, rather than a few times a year, and I believe it's the best deal for the money, especially as inexpensive as it is.

As an added bonus, many resorts and equipment companies offer special deals exclusively to Golf Magazine readers, which you can take advantage of via a special section on those offers each month.

Nice illustrations for lessons
I really enjoy how they illustrate and break down their lessons into different playing abilities. Even though they break down the lessons into breaking 80, 90, 100, straight hitter looking for power or power hitter looking for accuracy, they are all very helpful. No matter what your playing ability, I think any golfer can take away a little bit of advice from the playing lessons. Unfortunately, Golf Magazine seems to be a little weak on their travel side lately though; not really focusing on that perhaps due to the downturn in travel in recent months. I wish they would focus on that a little more like some other magazines such as T&L golf or The Golfer.

Wowwa!
I think this is a good review. If you are into golf you should deffenitly read this. If you are not so sure if you want to play golf maybe you should read this and get more into this magazine. This is more for teenagers and up I don't think kids would get this very much. My dad went crazy over this magazine and made me read this magazine and it made me get more into golf. I think if you would like to be more into golf and learn more about the players and the sport you should diffently read this. I think this was a great way for you to get more into golf and maybe just maybe you will be a pro someday. ... Read more

For the serious golfer
Golf tips magazine is one of the most aptly titled magazines available today. It is chock full of heavily-illustrated exercises and other tips for serious golfers to improve their games.

There are a number of golf magazines on the newstand today. Most of them rely on a lifestyle format relying more heavily on lifestyle-type stories about today's hot golfers and the courses they play. Most of them include a brief game tip or two but seem aimed at the casual duffer.

Golf Tips, on the other hand, features almost nothing but heavily illustrated tips on improving one's swing, eliminating mistakes and putting better. It also is heavily loaded with features on the latest equipment technology. Each issue also seems to feature an article on the technical aspects of a selected major golf course. The articles are written with terminology that serious golfers will understand but that may confuse the weekend player. Judging by the amount of advertising in its early issues, this magazine also appears to be financially healthy.

If a reader wants to read about the PGA Tour's superstars, this magazine is not for him/her. But if s/he plans to be one of those superstars, Golf Tips is a good match.

Good News - But Lacks other information
Golf World is a very good source for your every day/weekly golf news, industry news, tournament news and player news. However, it lacks everything else. There aren't any articles or special features on golf travel, clubs and other lifestyle related items that are also essential to the avid golfer. I actually enjoy Golfweek a little more, as they occasionally write about places to play and have a great "club test" piece, where they take a slew of different amateur players, with different handicaps and review new clubs by having different scenarios.

Your best source for the sport of golf
Okay, first things first: if you want a magazine that is going to show you how to 'Break 90 Consistently!' or 'Hit It Lke Tiger!!' etc...well, GolfWorld is *not* going to be your cup of tea.

But if you're like me and you want the inside scoop on what happened on the various tours (PGA, Champions, LPGA, Nationwide, European, Japanese, NCAA and much, much more) over the previous week, then GolfWorld *is exactly* what you're looking for. It's the bible. Period.

For example, there's a great section each week that tells you what the winners of the three major tours were carrying in their bags. Then they drill down one level further and examine one of the components in greater detail. For example, only GolfWorld told me that PGA winner Rich Beem uses graphite shafts on his irons. In fact, Beemer was one of only three (regular) tour golfers in 2002 that used them. The article when on to explain the bias against graphite irons at the pro level and Beem's reasoning against that bias. If you appreciate detail and nunace like that (and I do), then GolfWorld will fascinate you week in and week out.

GolfWorld also keeps you informed about the greater issues that consistently swirl about the game. No one has reported the R&A v. USGA v. Callaway (and others) COR battle better, and they've not shied away from commenting about the current Masters controversy either.

This week's edition (December 13, 2002) is a prime example of what makes GolfWorld such a great read. Q-School just concluded, and in most newspapers it got relegated to the agate type...even though this tournament - more than any other week of the year - can make or break men's careers (lives, maybe). By contrast, GolfWorld dedicates its *entire issue* - 52 pages! - to what it calls "golf's hardest week." Exactly what the event deserves.

Breathtaking Photography
The Golfer Magazine is one of the most beautiful publications out there I believe. Their photo essays are outstanding, dramatic and breathtaking. The last several issues have featured dramatic vista of holes from New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii to name a few. I think they have them online as well at www.thegolfermag.com Although they do not write on how to fix your slice like Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and the other magazines which in my opinion are becoming a little boring, The Golfer writes about how to live the game of golf to the fullest. They write about the new exciting exotic, luxurious destinations. They not only tell you where to go, but where to dine and stay while you're there and inform you of other exciting things to do like jet boating, fly-fishing or different wineries to visit. I highly recommend The Golfer Magazine to anyone out there who is tired of the regular advice on how to cure your slice 100 different ways.

Great for Travel
The Golfer is a great publication. I just planned our last trip to Hawaii thanks to their recent article on Hawaii golf. Hawaii was great and I recommend everyone TO GO and to subscribe to The Golfer if they enjoy exotic golfing destinations. They wrote in detail on several great courses and gave us suggestions for dining and wine and all the new gadgets for 2004!!!

Luxurious
The first thing I noticed about this unique golf magazine is how beautiful it is. The Golfer has the most stunning photographs of spectacular golf destinations throughout the world I have ever seen. I haven't seen any other magazine out there that even comes close to The Golfer's insight on the lifestyle of the game of golf. The Golfer has become my golf guide to travel throughout the world. I just finished reading an article on Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand and have planned our next getaway there in December. They have great articles on travel, style, dining, equipment, resorts, and where to look for real estate. They go a step further than all the other golf magazines by focusing on where to play and where to stay; where to eat while you're there and where to go shopping while you're in the area. Every resort they review is top notch and they haven't missed yet. I highly recommend The Golfer magazine to anyone out there who loves the game of golf and the lifestyle it exudes.

Great
This is one of the best Golf Magazines out there pertaining to golf travel - it writes about exotic locations all over the globe. Their last issue dealt with dramatic ocean side courses in Hawaii and the issue before had the "Pebble Beach" of New Zealand featured, Kauri Cliffs, which looked so great my Wife and I went down there last month to enjoy a little R&R and it was tremendous. ALL the Tour News, College Golf & Club Level News - Weekly!
Why should you get this magazine? If you are lacking in news regarding ALL of the tours (literally): PGA, LPGA, Senior, European, Asian tours, Buy.com and the mini circuits - they cover every tour event every week.

If you want rankings of every player worldwide, the money list and the weekly top finishers of every professional golf event from the televised tour events to the Greater Podunk Open with a top prize of $1,500 dollars, it's listed here. This is the only place that covers the college golf season in great detail.

While it's technically not a trade magazine, they cover new equipment announcements in a trade magazine manner - cost, distribution and advertising plans.

If you combined "Fortune" with "The Sporting News" - that's basically GolfWeek. They basically approach it as "the business of golf."

Which might sound like faint praise but it is actually a high compliment - they approach everything with a objective distance even when they are doing feature stories on golfers. They are sometimes harsh but always honest & fair. While some golf writers dance around an issue of a Sunday collapse, they are honest and forthright enough to address the issue without getting personal or vindictive. This is not the magazine on trying to knock 2 strokes off your game, that's what the other magazines are for.

Just like "Fortune" for golf, it's on the business of golf: the people, the tours, the equipment and what's going on. It is a lot of info, news, analyses and statistics. It's not for everyone but if you or the intended reader is someone who tries to figure out on Thursday which channel has opening round coverage or watches the Golf Channel regularly, this is one of the best magazines in America right now, not just on golf (and I read about 85 magazines a month). Needs more TRAVEL
This is supposed to be Travel & Leisure golf - but from the issues that I have read so far I'd like to know where the travel reviews are. The places T&L have chosen are so overwritten about like hilton head or myrtle beach. I'm looking for destinations I haven't heard of like Bandon Dunes, courses in Ireland that no one has heard of like Old Head, or going to Australia or New Zealand. So far I am very dissapointed with T&L - the layout is also very cluttered and scattered and busy. They would be better off simplifying their format a little. ... Read more

Over-rated
Where's the content in this magazine. ADs...ads...ads. They try and make themselves out to be a great golf travel magazine, but I have seen much better in other publications. I agree with the woman from England...Links loads up on these inserts. I like to read a magazine like The Golfer, where they travel all over the world and review spectacular courses from the Carribbean to New Zealand.

Very Serious Golf Magazine but a bit high on the Snob-factor
The Good: Links is for players who take golf very seriously. It usually contains one or two excellent journalistic articles. They have an immense appreciation for golf course architecture. It contains articles on 'classic courses', 'modern classics' (which usually reads a bit like a sales pitch for a private course), as well as 'great courses' in the UK & the Republic of Ireland (which is why I subscribe). The photography is always first-rate, and it occassionally includes some of the most visually stunning photo's of the some of the greatest courses on the planet (e.g. Cypress Point).

The Bad: Links includes a small section on golf clothing and equipment, but it seems they usually water-down any critical comments, which makes me a bit suspicious that they're afraid to offend any potential advertisers, so what's the point? Also, Links doesn't contain any articles on the technical/mechanical aspects of the swing (e.g. how to hit the ball further and straighter); they leave that to Golf Digest & Golf Magazine.

The Ugly: Links magazine is clearly aimed at the high-end, upper crust, elitist, fat-cat end of the market i.e. it's very high in snob-appeal. It's absolutely overloaded with advertisements (as well as those incredibly annoying inserts) for very exclusive, ultra-private country club estates that offer courses designed by Jack, Tom, or Arnie and include equestrian/polo facilities, spa's, marinas for your yacht, etc., not to mention the luxury homes at > $2MM. If your preferred drink is light beer, your golf attire includes muscle shirts, or perhaps you have a hat that says 'old fart' on it, then this magazine is definitely NOT for you.

I've been a subscriber for > five years, and although I find the 'ugly' part a bit annoying, I simply ignore it and find that the good outweighs it. ... Read more
