Best overall magazine
No hype, this magazine serves the average person who likes to stay abreast of new guns, techniques, legal issues and general information and trends about guns.

a good magazine with editorial flaws
I'm an ocasional reader of "Handguns." I like the magazine for its
information. It's got great reviews, as do many of the gun/sport
magazines. Reviews of guns tend to include all the detail any casual
or professional shootist would need: loads, shell types, ranges,
force, and tested accuracy over all of them.

It's a great magazine to pick up if you see a review of a gun you're
interested in but it does have the same flaw many, if not most, of the
magazines in this category have. Some of the writers cater to a
general mindset/stereotype:
white-male-lower-middle-class-trophy-hunter, demi-educated,
right-wing, religious, etc... The editors of the magazine reinforce
this by allowing a bit much personal opinion of writers to be put up
along with good information. This sometimes lack of objectivity makes
the magazine less palatable despite its obvious merits.

It's unfortunate that gun ownership has become synonymous with thi!s
stereotype. It alienates many gun owners, or those merely interested in guns, who fall outside the narrow

Great Magazine.......Bad Customer Service!
If you subscribe to this mag from amazon or by mail thats good. If you call them.... you can expect them to be RUDE and not very comprehensive about the magazine. I may have caught the operators on a bad day but maybe not. Just to let you know what to expect.

The top custom knife magazine!
This is clearly the top choice in custom knife magazines, though Knife Illustrated is also a good choice. It's probably 60% custom / 40% production.

The articles are good and insightful, some very high quality color pictures, and it's generally speaking entertaining & instructive.

The 4 star only rating is due to (1) the lack of objectivity of the articles (I have *never* read a negative review), and (2) too many pictures of custom knives are in B&W. I would happily pay double the price, get half as many issues, but in a glossy, high quality paper, premium binding, etc...

Man Magnum Shoots Straight
Flicking through the first few pages, stopping every here and there, I very soon realized that this was not just another outdoor magazine. This was a real hunting magazine by real hunters for real hunters. Bow hunters, rifle hunters, handgun hunting, female hunters, you name it, they had it.

Interesting articles, well written by experienced hunters and other trade folk. The general layout of the magazine is quite exceptional, in that it has combined both english and afrikaans(second national language of south africa) articles in such a way that it was appealling to both parties. Breathtaking photography and detailed descriptions flowed from one page to another, each one trying its best to out do the other.

It's columns were filled with vital information, the kind that only years of dealing in the hunting and gun trade brings about being.

I found that the best part of it was the smalls and "hunting opportunities" pages. Jam packed with saucy deals and best-kept-secret-hunting hide-outs.
No bull, straight shooting on the reviews pages and an honest to goodness feeling about the whole issue is the best way I can describe this magazine.

A must for the descerning huntsman and woman, truly the best in its class.
