2-0 out of 5 stars Don't get fooled
There are currently two major surf magazines, SURFER and SURFING. Guess what? They are owned by the same magazine conglomerate, Primedia. Surfer used to bill itself as the "Bible" of the sport, and for a long time it was. But now, in keeping with the times of oligopolies and the hyper-commercialization of surfing, Surfer, along with it's younger partner, Surfing, is a piece of toilet paper. The editorial content has been dumbed down to general public intelligence, the photos are not as spectacular as they used to be, and the characters they cover, the surfers themselves are nowhere near as interesting and colorful as they used to be. Blah...

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST MAG EVER!
I've had a subscripiton for 5 years now and Surfer is by far the best mag I've ever read, i could read it front to back or back to front 10 times and it would still be the best. It's almost a prescipition than a subscripition!

5-0 out of 5 stars Surfer Mag
By far the most comprehensive magazine on surfing, comes out monthly with news on surfing contests, changes in the surfing industry, and all the ins & outs you could think of, an amazing magazine, the only mag you should have if you are a surfer.

5-0 out of 5 stars I would like to have a backnumber of SURFER.
I would like to have a backnumber, this means privious SURFER magazine, for instance, 1998/Dec, 1999/Jan, because either magazine may have a poster including the magazine. I would like to have the poster. So if I have to contact the publisher of the magazine SURFER, because I don't know which edition have the poster. What should I do to get the old edition magazine?

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak Writing Detracts From the Material
Sadly, I can't recommend this magazine for most readers. I have a current subscription given as a gift, but I will not be renewing. I can't recommend this magazine because the writing often feels amateur. Articles are rarely compelling, and often feel that they were written by the readers. I have yet to come across an article (after 6 months) that feels like it was submitted by a professional writer. One positive that I will say is that when the subscription was made, the buyer was double billed, but Rodale took care of it quickly and easily.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Rodale's RULES!!!
Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine has something for every diving enthusiast. I love the safety issues, gear reviews & dive company ratings. It is a very useful tool for planning a dive trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advocate for divers
I have been religiously reading RSD for a few years now and can't say enough how the magazine serves as a 'Consumer Reports' for divers. Their gear recommendations are top notch--I follow them religiously; but more importantly they stress good technique and training. Their "Lessons for Life" column, where they detail the anatomy of a diving accident, is very useful in keeping divers focused on the fact that although diving is a heck of a lot of fun, it also carries with it some substantial, but mostly preventable, risks. This awareness of those risks led me to work my way up to Rescue Diver certification and I am now pursuing Divemaster, all in the pursuit of becoming the best diver possible. If you dive at all, you need to be reading this magazine. ... However, like EVERY dive publication, I wonder if they can't keep from raving about any dive destination enough. It makes me wonder if the dive destination (especially the Cayman Islands!!!) isn't paying the reporters' way. Trust them for gear, technique, and lifesaving tips. Verify the vacations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine for All Divers
I really enjoy reading this magazine. I look forward to it every month. The gear testing articles are very helpful in chosing the right gear to meet all conditions. The articles on travel destinations are very well researched. The articles rate the diving and dive facilities so you know exactly what to expect before you arrive. The magazine helps increase my knowlege of diving, which increases my saftey in the water. We all need to continue our education after certification and this magazine is a great way to do it! Highly Recommeded!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
Rodale's is an excellent read jam packed with info on gear, destinations and current diving practices. I have found it to be a great research tool in continuing my scuba diving development. I would recomend it to any one interested in diving from the complete novice to a seasoned veterine looking to expand thier knowledge on new equipment or destinations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The new BEST surf magazine.
The reviews blowing off SURFING on this page obviously haven't taken a look at the magazine recently. First of all, Surfer mag is in the dumps these days - with the stangent editorial of Sam "the bore" George soliliquizing away on his own little pulpit while the editorial team traipse off on their own little agendas is truly tiresome. SURFING on the other hand, has been on a sharp up-swing from their former, grom-oriented self. Clean, simple, and pure the way a surf magazine should be, you can tell the mag is being put together by a unified editorial team. Each issue is cohesive, focused and beautiful. Rounded lines (to imitate the shape of waves) andhuge, epic surf pics displaying the true cutting edge of high performance surfing. I've been a subscriber of both surf mags (which by the way, are owned by the same parent company and thus print the exact some amount of advertising), and I definitely see SURFING on the way up and Surfer, on the way out. Check it out. The difference is clear.

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK
THIS MAG HAS GONE SO COMMERCIAL IT IS A DISGRACE TO SURFING(SURFER MAG IS A LITTLE BETTER BUT NOT BY MUCH).I GUESS IF YOUR 12 YEARS OLD YOU WOULD LIKE IT.IF YOUR A REAL SURFER AND WANT REAL SURF MAGS GET ;THE SURFERS JOURNAL,THE SURFERS PATH,OR AUSTRALIAS SURFING LIFE.THESE MAGS HAVE REAL ARTICLES ABOUT SURFING;NOT ABOUT WHAT KIND OF TRUNKS JOE BLOW SURF STAR WEARS.

3-0 out of 5 stars Surf Serf
2nd best surf dedicated mag. (Surfer is THE BEST!)

5-0 out of 5 stars My First Collage...
...was produced from the pages of this magazine. I was a 10 year-old midwesterner just returning home from my first visit to relatives living in Newport Beach, CA with a copy of Surfing in my hands. Unable to persuade my parents to relocate and forced to buy a skateboard rather than a surfboard, I was left only with this magazine to satisfy my desire to be on the beach and in the water. And satisfy it has! All of these years later, I still pour over the pictures and read about the lifestyles these "dudes". Spicoli lives. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Magaizine Worth its Ballast.
I get three "boating" magazines: Sailing, Sail and Soundings (a general boating magazine - highly recommended). Each one has a special place on my coffee table.

The strength of this magazine is, first and foremost, the sections titled: 'Perry on Design' and the 'Used Boat Notebook' (and its accompanying side bar - 'Value Guide'). 'Perry on Design' covers briefly the designs of the new offering hitting the market. 'Used Boat Notebook' is the "Car & Driver" review for used boats: much more thorough than 'Perry'. This outstanding section covers: Impressions, Construction, What to Look for, On Deck, Down Below, Engine, Under Way and a succinct conclusion that raps it up This section alone is the main reason I get this magazine. Other reasons are the magazine's beautiful color photos and a section called 'Boat Doctor', information on technique and safety.

If you are a sailor, serious or a wannabe, you can't go wrong with "Sailing". Strongly recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sailing World
I subscribed to Sailing World for two years. After 6 months I noticed that I only had 6 months left. After 5 calls where I was told I did have another year coming, now the tell me that a new owner has purchased the magazine and they owe me nothing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sailing World
I subscribed for 2 years and after 6 months I noticed that they only showed me having 6 months left. I have now spoken to them 5 times and spent more than an hour on the phone and they just told me they cant help me because they have been sold and the new owner dosn't owe me anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top quality sailing magazine!
Sailing World is a beautiful, well-written magazine! It comes with gorgeous pictures and coverage of international, college and local races and regattas, as well as contains many technique articles complete with pictures and diagrams to reinforce or introduce solid techniques to a beginning or even experienced sailor. When I can't get out to sail, I turn to Sailing World to bring the world of sailing to me! It always has excellent coverage of America's Cup as well as other local regattas in California, where I live. It is timely and the information is always very current and holds the latest news in tech issues, new products on the market and current standings. Excellent coverage and exclusive articles that I haven't seen anywhere else. This publication helps you concentrate on being the best sailor that you can, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro. I recently took up sailing a few years ago and this has been like my sailing bible!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO SAILING!...
If you only have time or space for one sailing magazine, this would be it! From the professional to the enthusiastic beginner, Sailing World is a must for the sailing afficianado. Where else can you find a balanced, well-written magazine that not only covers collegiate sailing, new products, America's Cup, international sailing, new boats, expert techniques, and intelligent editorials. I have found that other sailing publications try to be "too much" and they lose their focus in either large and countless advertisements to pay for their large format, or juxtapose a beginner's article against a highly technical article for experts, leaving the reader confused. This is the only sailing magazine I subscribe to and will continue to. You must have this magazine! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ads are common
Surf is a good magazine. All large commercial surfing magazines (including Surfer the oldest and the industry standard/bible) have many pages devoted solely to advertisement. I find the articles on professional surfers good, while the coverage of pro surfing events could be a little more extensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent gift for your favorite surfer
My surfer boyfriend reads this mag cover to cover every issue. Great gift because it's a bit expensive & something he probably wouldn't spring for. Very few ads, the pics are magnificent & articles are interesting even to a non-surfer such as myself. He loves it & saves every issue.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surf Rag as Art Revue: It works!!!
This is 'surfer' magazine for grown-ups (present owner-editor is, in fact, the past editor of 'Surfer' when, in my opinion it was at its best). Printed on heavy stock using the finest printing techniques makes this more of a coffee table magazine than a heavily thumbed through surf rag because of its unbelievably beautiful photographs and text. Specializes in extended essays about early surf pioneers, iconic surf figures (shapers, surfers, characters) from surfing's glory days, and heavily photographed surfari's. This is definitely the kind of magazine that one stores away after reading in order to have another look in a few years time. The magazine began to take commercial ads a couple of years ago which is a shame, but I suppose an economic necessity. For this reason and because the editors have failed to have their mailing envelopes printed with the warning 'DO NOT BEND,' which results in a permanently bent magazine after it has been shoved through the mail slot, I rate it only four stars. If the Do Not Bend warning ever gets placed on its envelopes, the magazine rates a great big bright 5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully photographed surf journal that you'll save
This is THE magazine for gorgeous surf photos and inspiring articles. The price may seem steep, but it will seem like a bargain once you see this beautifully produced, high quality magazine with almost no advertising at all (they have a few ads near the back, but nothing like "normal" surf mags.) The magazines are created to be read, as well as collected, with amazing surf photography and articles. They even come in a large envelope to protect the cover from abuse in the mail (plus, they never sticker the front of the magazine, another collector's bonus.)

It's not another flashy, ad supported publication - it's an artistically and surf oriented collection of articles and photography from around the world. This is a magazine for surfers, friends of surfers, photography junkies and artists alike. It is the definitive surf publication. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars warning: it's no wahine!
I picked up a copy hoping to replace Wahine (oh how I miss it!), but I was disappointed. More like a teen magazine than a surf publication. The cover says "For girls who want a little action," and that pretty much sums it up. Very little action. It's full of ads, and it emphasizes shopping over surfing, with features like "Crazy For Shoes?" and "32 Styles Built for the Beach." If you want to sit on the beach and look pretty, it's your mag, but for a much better balance of substance and style--real surf tips, real surf gear--try Surf Life for Women (easy to find on the Web).

5-0 out of 5 stars !Surfing Magazine!
Wow! This magazine was so awesome. Even though I don't surf but live in Stinson Beach and watch surfing, I love to read about it. I think all girls should order it. It is very interesting and cool it read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome mag!
This magazine is great! I was totally happy that i found a surfing magazine that was about girl surfers. i exspecially like it because i can get it in michigan even though im not by the ocean. usually they would only have it in state where people can surf. i thought it was awesome.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not only Surfing
This is a great magazine for girls (duh)! It's not only about surfing, there are also some skateboarding and snowboarding articles in there. The only problem is that some of the articles are too long and just go on forever about...really nothing in particular. but don't let that stop you!!! this is a great magazine i highly recommend it!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pics
...and that's about it. O.K. so that's not entirely true. There are some good articles and the trick tips rock. And yeah it's a wakeboarding magazine so that alone gives it a high score. It's worth the price for the pictures alone and if your a wakeboarding enthusiast it's a must.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's all about the sponsors!
This magazine is good for those wakeboarders who are new to the sport. I give it 3 out of 5 stars due to the fact that it has quality pictures of wakeboarding in it other wise the score would have been quit a bit lower. However, if you have any amount of time invested in wakeboarding this is not the subscription for you! There is another magazine out there that is straight up with what is going on in your sport. Cuts the bull and feeds you the goods. So go to your local boardshop and pick one up!

5-0 out of 5 stars This mag is awesome!
This magaizine is well worth the low cost. It has great pictures, interesting articles, and informative guides for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders. It even has a section that shows and explians how to do certian tricks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Friends
I think this magazine is awesome. The pictures in there are amazing and the stories are great too. I have a lot of friends that are in this magazine and they show them at their best and worst. They don't tell lies.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool Pictures, that's about it
This magazine has some incredible pictures! Watching wakeboarding on TV, you really don't get the same appreciation for how high above the water these guys (and gals) are, and how contorted there bodies can get. Beyond that, this magazine doesn't impress. The articles barely scratch the surface of the topics discussed, and the bios on riders doesn't really make you feel like you've gotten to know them. If you are looking for really cool pictures of wakeboarding, this is your magazine. However, if you're looking to learn about the riders and how to perform their tricks, I'd pass. ... Read more
